    In short: Where do I get a Barebone?

    In Long:
    Hi,
    I am searching for a Mobile Workstation, I found the Clevo D900F a nice Barebone, because is one of two Notebooks-MBs that has a triple channel ddr3 ram interface. And (I am not going to buy an extrem expensive Core i7 and than throwing away nearly 30% of memory bandwith.) :cool:

    My problem is, that the German Clevo Resellers are scammers or do not provide the setup I wish. Every single shop is trying to rip you off: Example 4 GB Memory (1 SO-DIMM ) costs 140 Euro, 8 GB (2 SO-DIMM) casts 340 Euro, 12GB (3 "unspecified" SO-DIMMs) 600 Euro. ... never used a calculator? Why do they do this? It can not cost 180 additional Euro to install 2 additional SO-DIMMS or I would be a very very rich guy. :mad:

    Another Example:
    Replacing a 250 GB HDD with a Intel 25w G2 160gb costs additional 400 Euro, looking at a random hardwarestore the very same item is sold for appro. 350 Euro. :mad:

    Also I do not need a GeForce 280M a 260M would do, but I want at least a 960 or 965 CPU or could the 920 be overclocked to match them? :confused:

    Thanks

    Good luck and also how much of a difference would it cost to get this machine as a barebone than before?

    To me it looks like not only German Clevo resellers use this practice, also Kobalt computers have unreasonable high price for 3x4GB for D900F.

    This is common for most resellers, alas... one of the reasons still keeping me away from Clevo...

    Not quite true - let me explain :)

    If you want 4GB then you have the option to use 2 x 2GB DIMMs which costs (to the public) approximately £90 inc VAT or €103. The expense comes when you have to start using 4GB DIMMS which cost in excess of £220 or €250 each.

    The D900F has three DIMM slots so the most cost effective way to use RAM is:

    6GB = 3 x 2GB DIMMs = ~£125 = ~€145

    12GB = 3 x 4GB DIMMs = ~£635 = ~€726

    So the reason for the high price of 12GB SODIMM is solely because the 4GB DIMMs are extremely expensive - well over four times more expensive than 2 x 2GB.

    Thanks Soviet Sunrise! This looks like the best opportunity yet!

    Have a nice Weekend!

    And also thanks to the rest of you!

    Which brand of 4GB DIMMS are you using? Corsair SODIMM 4096MB DDR III 1333MHz cost about 180£ each. Kingston SODIMM 4096MB DDR III 1066MHz cost about 112£ each. I see D900F on Kobalt page shows 1066MHz memory not 1333Mhz. Or does D900F use desktop DDR III chips?

    We use Corsair RAM. I just had a look online and couldn't find anyone who actually had stock of Kingston 4GB SODIMMs for under £200. Corsair is a strong brand and for the numbers we buy we have found that the channel supply and reliability is second to none.

    You're right that we do only use 1066MHz - it is lower CAS than 1333MHz and you'll only get RAM running at 1333MHz with a 975 CPU. On the odd occasion that someone selects a 975 CPU we usually put 1333MHz RAM in though.
