Hey guys
I am in Canada and I was wondering Which Sage/Clevo Unit compares to Alienware's new M17x? Matches or surpasses M17x's specs but with a lower price.
Also I don't usually wait for better specs to be released because I know I can play the waiting game my entire life. But I know USB 3.0 is coming out sometimes next year, And the speed difference between USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 is a lot. This speed difference could affect all the external addons, Mainly External Harddrives.
And hopefully the gap between USB 3.0 and USB 4.0 will be the same as it was with 2.0 and 3.0
Another thing is, is it worth waiting for laptops to come preinstalled with Win7?
I haven't tried Win7, bit people say that it's a much better OS than Xp and Vista.
Thanks

M980NU is the direct competitor of the M17x.
In 2010, it will be worth waiting until 2011, and so on. Mobile tech is advancing so quickly right now, it's always going to be the wrong time. -
The Sager NP9850/Clevo M980NU
http://www.xoticpc.com/sager-np9850-built-clevo-m980nu-gaming-laptop-order-p-2586.html
The Alienware with Gtx260s SLI is cheaper though. -
The 18.4" M980NU is the closest they have, there is no direct answer to the M17X in Clevo's 17" line-up.
-
Thanks, I was also checking out the M980NU
Eurocom charges $4,393
Xotic PC charges $3,251 (is it in USD?, if so $3,251USD = $3,803CAD)
for almost the exact same configuration.
SLi ENABLED DUAL (2) 1024MB PCI-Express nVIDIA GTX 280M's (2048MB Total) w/ GDDR3 DX10
Vs.
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4870 X2 (2048MB Total) w/ GDDR5 DX10
which one is better in overall gaming performance? GDDR5 is about 2-3x faster than GDDR3? is that correct?
-
Who had GDDR5 4870s?
-
-
no one has GDDR5 4870s (that I know of), I just looked on notebook check and this was below 280M gtx SLI, but it had GDDR5, so I was wondering if this was faster than 280M SLI
-
ddr5 4870's will be faster then 280's and cheaper
and m98nu is the DIRECT competitor but is 1.4 inch's bigger and thicker but just as good -
electrosoft Perpetualist Matrixist
You do get a 18.4" true 1080 screen with the M98 and it isn't like the M17x isn't a monstrosity approaching 12lbs itself.
Basically, do you want a 18.4" screen or 17" screen is the defining criteria, as they will both nearly identical in performance.
I also like how Clevo went with a Macbook'esque style keyboard. You don't realize how nice a Macbook Pro keyboard is on the new Unibody's till you use one a few days. -

Forget USB3 it should be the least of your worries adaptors./Expresscard hubs etc willl all help you out. -
I had not really looked at this laptop but after seeing the screenshot above of the keyboard I am in love! hrm how to convince the wife that I need to get this instead of a 8662...

I definitely like the throwback look of the D900F. -
well the AW can be overclocked VIA bios so far it's confirmed to 3.2 ghz and can be unlocked more
-
Hopefully the M98 BIOS also has OC ability....
-
the M17x can be OC'd higher then 3.2 but no one with a full arsenal has tested yet .....
also side note there is FSB settings as well
@3.06 ghz the m17x max temps are 59c while playing WoW -
FSB OC is really good, pity Clevo doesn´t give that support.......
-
One thing Wow is a Old game Which is always being updated. I would like to see over clock on a newer game that a year or so old. Not a older game that requires cpu power Not gpu power.
-
still talks of gddr5 memory... and as long as they are taking to bring it out..nvidia will be done cought up with ati on this aleged 4 ghz memory..which is now being made by samsung and rated at 7 ghz...
i would give that a rest already...it aint around now. what happen to jan/feb/march/april/may and now june..no gddr5 as of yet. and all these people with inside information..*rotflmao* too funny.. -
well i for one would like to believe
because if it was true it would be very very good indeed
-
By the time GDDR5 4870 is out, we'll have the tech specs of the mobile GT300 and R870 to savor over lol.
-
well then it looks like its gonna be a WAR lol
i have no preference.... I do like ATI because of the prices though -
Nvidi'as been cheap as well. $300 more for sli 260M on m17x? heeeeck yeaaah
-
but 490 out right per card
-
go buy a 9800m gtx
just ask john -
john got his sort of cheap...600 to upgrade to 9800m gtx sli from 9800m gt..way back when...and that was still an arm and a leg...hahaha
my feelings we're hurt when i bought the 280m and it had no sli connector..so i sent it back and bought 2 gtx295's -
lol shows how much cheaper desktops are
-
295=530 bucks
280m 490 bucks
but i bought the red edition...now just bidding my time...
going to do a step up card change to either the single gtx295 boards and water blocks or try to hope for a gt300(wishful thinking for sure)card -
humm.... i knew they were expensive but dang....
-
yeah, mr moo...i think it's time to get serious about gaming... -
i think that would be getting serious on a morgage payment lol
-
yes...but a one time payment at that...
Which Sager/Clevo laptop is in the same class as Alienware's M17x?
