Which specific brand of hard drive did your 9262 come with?

I find it a little bit worrying that resellers don't know exactly which hard drive will go in the machines.

Justin from Xotic told me that they use only major name brand hard drives, but said he couldn't confirm which specific brand the 200gb 7200rpm, which I asked about, would be.

I would very much like a Hitachi Travelstar 200GB as that seems to be the fastest, but to your knowledge is that even one of the possible options?

They all come with different brands. Usually what they have in stock. You should be able to ask your reseller what specific brand will be in your machine. They should be able to tell you that much.

Mine came with 3 x 7k200's Hitachi's. I love them. Now with the 5k500's being out I'm thinking of upgrading. :D Something about 1TB in Raid5

The 200GB will be either a Seagate or Hitachi SATA II 3GB/s 7,200 RPM hard drive in either the NP5792 or NP9262.

If you really prefer the Hitachi you can request it, and if Sager has them in stock when they build yours they will use it, but they will not guarantee it in the event they only have the Seagate in stock at the time.

It is doubtful that you could notice any difference in performance between the two.

Thanks, sounds great! I'll try and ask Justin if he can do that as well. If not I might buy from Powernotebooks instead. Xotic is just closer to me and the extended warranty is pretty nice.

Just user HDtune and it will automatically detect it. Mine is a Fujitsu for example...
But AFAIK yours should be a Hitachi or Seagate, judging by the size(200 gb)

    Mheh, didn`t see Donald`s post :D

Alternatively, if you really, really want to make sure you get exactly the brand of hdd you want, why not order a 9262 without any drives at all, buy the drives you want separately, and add them in yourself? A quick check at RJTech shows that you can buy them without any drives whatsoever (assuming you also want to purchase an OS with the 9262, RJTech gives you the option of having everything shipped as parts so you can have the "pleasure" of putting it together yourself, so presumably you could purchase an OS, take the "I'll do it myself" option, and just get the OS on CD-ROM instead of already installed).
