I was looking at the NP6165/W150ER. I'll just be playing Diablo 3 and League of Legends, so I don't need anything too powerful.

I can't seem to find anything regarding whether it has a backlit keyboard or will be getting one though. I think the NP9150 has one? I don't wanna make a $400 jump though just for the backlit keyboard lol.

Only P series, and not the P151EM. Unfortunately, it is impossible to but a backlit one on anything else because connections.

I thought the issue was more the fact that the BLK wouldn't fit in the 151EM. I'm sure if one wanted to, they could solder a BLK to a USB 5V power source in an always on type set up. The point is that it unfortunately wouldn't fit..

Possibly, but it would be impossible to control. I don't think it's just a power connector that's needed... If somebody doesn't mind trashing their keyboard, and has both laptops, that would be interesting to try out, though...

If you can get it voltage then thats step one, the other thing is you need the EC (Keyboard Controller) to tell it to turn on the backlighting, now that could just "happen" when you give it +5V but yea, good luck =)

The cost of a new keyboard and the risk/effort needed to solder everything together into a hack that worked seems like it would really offset the cost difference between the P151EM and P150EM (considering the other differences like the larger PSU as well). Is it the exterior of the P151EM that people prefer to the P150?

Well yeah, realistically it probably wouldn't be worth the effort. I'm not sure what you mean by exterior exactly, but in my case I prefer the glossy plastic of the 151 over the texturized rubber found in the 150. The rubberized coating is going to show more wear over time IMO. The plain plastic would be easier to maintain.

So motherboards are different between P151EM and P150EM? Is that the ONLY difference between them? Just seems odd they'd go through that trouble, but whatever.

From first look yes it appears to be the only difference.

Huh, interesting point. I actually hadn't thought about that possibility. Anyone have any insights into if this might be the case?

I think it depends on how you use it. I've had a P150HM for personal use since last March and it's still in basically brand new shape. I keep it in a laptop sleeve when it's not in use though (and wipe it down with a microfiber cloth when I put it away), so that probably helps to protect it.

I have never had good luck with the rubberized coating lasting on anything of mine that has it. I really like it, but I actually find myself leaning away from it given the choice anymore . . .
