    Hey everyone,

I've been painfully indecisive about which Clevo model to get and I'm sure there are others out there too.

Since I'm mainly playing D3 & GW2, I don't need a top end rig. This leaves W110er and W150er as my potential choices.

I was super excited about W110er, but in the end decided I can't handle the 11.6" screen if I ever go LAN party...

Also, for about $100+ more you can get the W150er with bigger/better screen and improved graphics card.

Another selling point of the W150er is it's eSATA for potential eGPU setup in case a more demanding game like Crysis 3 comes out and I need to play it.

At this point I'm just waiting on proper battery life stats with iGPU only.

If you have decided on your Clevo, I'd love to hear your reasoning behind it :)

    eSATA won't help with eGPU.

It's a personal choice obviously. I'm going for the W110ER only because it fits my needs at the moment. I don't game as much as I used to, but still like to when I get a chance. But moreso I want better battery life and something easier to carry around.

I was going to get a W110ER but switched it to a W150ER. The 7970M sold me, and it's not much more money (plus better screen and future upgrade capability). Incredible performance for a very reasonable price. Here's hoping I can handle work travel with my 7lb. gaming beast and my 6lb. work beast. :)

Only issue going with the 7970m is battery life. As far as we know, there is no GPU switching with the AMD card, so you're stuck with probably about 2-2.5 hours life. If that's ok with you then that is the best absolute bang for the buck config you can get. If I didn't need more than a couple hours battery life that's the route I'd take too.

Umm.. do you mean P150EM? Don't think that the W150er is getting a 7970m.

W150ER gets no 7970m, and eSATA won't help with an eGPU.

7970m has switching, amd calls it enduro or something.

I'm getting a P150EM, but my needs are more demanding than yours and I need the extra gpu strength. Also, I like the keyboard.

I know AMD has a switching option, but one or two reps here noted that there will be no switching with AMD GPU in Clevos. Only Optimus with Intel/nVidia. Whether or not that changes is yet to be seen.

Obviously it was a typo. Read my sig. :)

There's no reason to assume that the 7970M will not support switching. It will perhaps be manual and require a reboot, but it will support it nonetheless. The 6990M did in the Clevo/Sagers. And the boutique shops got it working, whereas some larger laptop mfg's did not.

None of the Clevo/Sager models had working graphics switching with the 6990m. The models that had that card were the ones that didn't have the integrated GPU wired up at all, so it was completely impossible.

Well, I guess I will take my chances then. I didn't really expect 4-5 hours out of this thing anyway, due to size it's just not convenient. Will probably get an iPad or something for random browsing. It's primarily so I can game while on the road for work. :)

thanks for all the replies - I somehow had this misconception that eSATA could be implemented as a eGPU.... maybe it's mSATA? *confused*

Hmm in that case I'm back to being undecided, I guess the most mature thing to do is wait for reviews.

Has any resellers ever shipped to New Zealand before? If you have, I'm interested in finding out how long it took to get here :)

I think for eGPU's, you were thinking of expresscard. There were a few models like the ViDock that allowed for external (lower end) GPU's that way. But it was bulky and really limited by the speed of the slot (equivalent to PCIe 1x). Mobile GPU's are also getting fast enough that they're pretty close in performance to the midrange models that were used externally in the past anyway. The 7970m is rumored to be just a few points away from a desktop 580. The 675/580/485m were all very close to the desktop 560ti.

Right, which makes me realize I need to upgrade the video card in my desktop. :p

I have, well not a laptop but some things to my mother (New Zealander living in London here) Took about 6 days. Not cheap though, There's an Australian reseller I think, perhaps try them?

Yeah... I've been comparing prices and Australian prices are nuts!

I guess I'll just have to bite the bullet and try...
