Which is the best speaker config to choose? is it best to maximize the 7.1 even though physically the laptop only got 2 speakers and a sub woofer? How can you activate the sub woofer? is it by choosing either 5.1 and 7.1 and disabling other speakers and just enabling the left, right and sub?

Stereo is the only one that really works from the integrated speakers. 5.1 or 7.1 are really there for when you use the output jacks to a sound system. You won't see much use for them otherwise.
