Just to confirm: you have Exact AUO B173HW01 v4 90% Glossy panel and you check this by using cell phone and then change Brightness from Max to Min on your Clevo/Sager?

    thanks

If you mean the horizontal scan lines then yes I see them with the cell phone camera as well. But if you mean flickering in normal daily usage then no.

Yes, and those horizontal scan lines are totally normal.

You obviously have very sensitive eyes to this phenomenon, it's not something you will get a valid response for yourself easily.

Maybe you know what’s the next better screen beside "AUO B173HW01 v4 90% glossy screen" I can try?

    Thanks

It's more to do with the backlight PWM, have you used many notebook LED backlit displays before? You probably wont see much difference between different panels when it comes to backlight control, some of it may even be motherboard controlled.

Have you experimented with changing the brightness to see if that impacts the flickering?

Sensitivity to PWM is a very subjective thing. I used the AUO panel for about 4 months, then switched to an external monitor setup (Asus VG248QE) which also uses PWM. In neither cases have I noticed any flickering or experienced eyestrain due to flickering (eyestrain due to staring at the screen for 5+ hours continuously sure).

FWIW the cellphone camera doesn't pick up any scan lines on the Asus VG248QE whether running at 60, 120, or 144 Hz.

I have two notebooks with LED screens: Acer 15.6" and Gateway 10" they don't flicker at all.
and I also have two Gateway 7811FX 17" (not LED) they don't flicker at all.

If you saw my video that I did in store, there are notebooks that do not have that issue at all: post#133

Yes, I did experimented with changing the brightness to see if that impacts the flickering: "AUO B173HW01 v4 90% glossy screen" - on FULL Brightness there is no flickering, but even in a day time its too bright to look at, forget about night... When lowering brightness from 100% to 95% it start to flicker

PS: I asked my wife and mom when she came, to sit in front of this screen and they both said that they have eyestrain after 50min and its hard focus - its exactly how I fell

Maybe they just wanted to get away after "sitting in front of the screen" for almost an hour... :p

If you asked me I'd say the 24" Asus is harder to focus on than the 17.3" AUO LOL

No seriously since I sit less than 2 feet (60 cm) away from the 24" LCD, it's kind of hard to get the entire screen into my usable (central) FOV
