    Hey all,

So the M860TU was first out in I think august or september 08? I am pretty new to the Sager brand and I would like to know what was the 15 inch gaming rig of clevo before this one?

How long do these generations of laptop stay alive? 1 year.. 2 years? 3?
I'm asking because I see the new MXM 3 slots on the newer clevos and the new cards coming in Q3 this year and was wondering when do you guys (based on experience) think a new 15 inch beast will see the day?

the last Clevo 15.4" gaming notebook dates back about 3-4 years ago...
    - Clevo M560A (aka. Sager NP5320) .... Pentium M with ATI X700

Chaz has this system, here is his review of it:

And Clevo did not use MXM slots until the Clevo D901C and M570RU.... in late 2007.

Previous, Clevo was using their own proprietary videocard modules.

The M860TU was a long time coming since many people were hoping that Clevo would come out with it to compete with other 15.4" notebooks, which were mainly mid-range.

The M560A was a very short lived laptop. Clevo and Sager didn't sell too many of these and they discontinued it fairly early.

    not true.

I know a number of people with this notebook still.

It was the fastest 15.4" gaming notebooks out at the time... so for those that wanted the fastest, they got this one. :)

Q3 is very generous for the next generation of Nvidia's notebook cards. Q3 for desktop, maybe, but unless something has changed it's not going to be an instant transition into the notebook realm. I say Q1 2010 at the earliest.

That's not what I meant. The laptop debuted for at most two seasons before it was discontinued with the arrival of the Intel Core. The chassis design of the M560A or its Nvidia counterpart the M38AW did not carry on, unlike the 17 inchers of the time, after they were put to rest in 2006.

Well I was wondering.. Since the next gen gpus will be mxm III, the M860TU would have to be replaced or have some kind of revision to mxm III (is that possible??) or it will basically have no more upgrades in the future and might not stay top 15 inch laptop?

Is there some sort of importance in this being the top 15 inch laptop or such? I thought it was getting what you needed for a price that was best suited for your budget.

Also got the impression the general range of technology created today would have been at the same level give or take 2 to 3 years? (eg. a P9500 compared to a X9001 within that time would be dwarfed by whatever is out)

The importance of size - the smaller the notebook, the easier it is to move around with it. Something we all know of course - not trying to patronise anyone. Many people don't want to lug around a 17"+ computer. If you're often mobile with the laptop it can become tedious. Getting maximum performance out of the minimum size is what everyone wants in a notebook. With a high-range card in a medium sized machine, and one that I add that doesn't overheat, it's like hitting the jackpot for many of us.

Of course, it's not the holy grail of getting High-end SLI in a 13" but let's be realistic...

In the huge scope of things, not really. For example, game developers still mention P4's in relation to specs. We're all just spoilt... erm, sorry... enthusiastic enough to be fussy.
Seriously, there are quite a few people on this board who don't have the latest C2D laptops.
