Hi, I have decided to buy the Sager NP5793 Model Laptop. My last computer was a dell and I have never bought from a reseller before and never thought about it really. But when I saw the price of the Sager NP5793 equiped with a nvidia 8800m gtx graphics card I knew I had to go with Sager. Since I have never bought from any reseller, or even knew which resellers were popular until recently, I am a bit lost in trying to select a company. Originally i was gonna buy my laptop off sager.com, but soon realized that a lot of customers were upset with the way business there was handled. It seems like PowerNotebooks.com, Xoticpc.com, PCtorque.com, and Eurcom.ca, are the leaders of the reselessing industry. If you could post your own experiences with Sager Laptops and reseller companies it would be grealty appreciated.

P.S. Feel free to leave any additional information on the Sager NP5793.

Welcome to the NBR forums. :)

If you have read the Clevo Guide, you should have a good idea about what to check in a vendor/reseller... resellerratings and BBB ratings.

In this forum, the most feedback comes from customers of:

Keep in mind I am just listing them off my head... no order really. But these vendors seem to have amazing reputations for service/support.

There are many vendors for these Clevo notebooks... you just have to read up on them and contact them (by phone is best) to see if they fit your needs for not just price, but for service/support.

Most of the Sager resellers will price-match amongst each other.

I cannot say from personal experience whether there is a better or a worse reseller, although I will say that both xoticpc and powernotebooks have representatives who participate (helpfully) on this forum, and as you can see from the other posts, have a good reputation for service, so you won't go wrong with any of the resellers named above, or (most likely) anyone listed on Gophn's Clevo Guide.

The one point I would add is that you should check to see whether or not a reseller you're interested in is in the same state in which you live (or, more pertinently, in which the laptop will be delivered). The reason for this is that, since most of the resellers do business by phone or over the internet, a purchase from one of them is only subject to sales tax if the purchaser lives in the same state as the state where the reseller is located.

For example, if you live in Nevada, then your purchase will be subject to Nevada sales tax if you buy from powernotebooks, but not if you live in any other state (technically, sales tax is applied depending on the address to which the laptop is delivered, so if you did live in Nevada, and had a trusted relative who lived in another state, you might consider having your laptop delivered to your relative's address).

Given the pricing of these systems (still a good value for the money, but not cheap), avoiding sales tax could present you with significant savings. For example, if you configured a 9262 at powernotebooks with a final cost of $3,000 (incl. shipping, which is usually included in the sales tax base), and you had the system shipped to Clark County, NV, you would pay sales tax of 7.75%, or approximately $232. That's an unnecessary cost that is well worth avoiding if you can do so.

P.S., sorry paladin44, I wasn't trying to pick on you, you were just the first example that came to mind.

thanks, yes i noticed paladin44 and justin from xoticpc. I have talked to justin via PM and it seems like xotic is the way for me. I also did some price comparing, and out of 10 resllers xotic was 2nd best in the price of my system, only 10 bucks behind pctorque. Powernotebooks is third best at 14 dollars more than pctorque. Either way i trust xoticpc more than pctorque due to the fact that i have seen justin posting lots of information on these forums to help sager laptop owners. A big hint to all resellers... it helps when you have guys like justin and paladin44 getting out there and being social with people interested in the models you offer. Also i noticed that a couple resellers out there were charging around $1600 more than the exact same laptop offered on xoticpc or powernotebook. The main difference is that these companies offered paint jobs and came with crazy names like Lzerkiller
ThrillerChillerZues578245X... you get the point, lots of not so important stuf to raise up the price tag. Anyway a warning to all new resale consumers, do the research. Dont fall for companies like this that charge way to much for no good reason. Thanks to everyone who responded to this thread, especially gophon, I had not looked at the Clevo guide until you pointed it out.

I've researched a lot since I'm getting a Sager, talked to sales rep of most of the resellers, emailed some of them.... And I find XoticPC the best by far! They have the friendliest staff and the best customer support and reviews!

There are other Clevo resellers in Australia......

    Have a look at:-

    www.itchannel.com.au
    www.p4laptops.com.au
    www.affordablelaptops.com.au

I haven't had any dealing with any of them, other than viewing their websites, so let us know how you go.

I have some experience with powernotebooks and I can say their sales and support is great as far as I can tell. They answered all my questions and I think you usually get the same sales agent handling your case throughout the process until you purchase.

I called support once and from the short experience I can say it seems to be better than any support I've had in the past (mainly Dell). The support person spoke English and it seemed like he was actually listening to what I was saying instead of looking up canned responses or going off on tangents not related at all to the issue. Also it sounded like he actually knew what he was talking about.

PC Microworks has great service! I have been very please with my customer service guy. With that said I think that most resellers are pretty good. I have not really heard of a BAD reseller.
    cheers!

well, lets say that if everything goes right they are all ok, but as soon something goes wrong only few of them show a good service. Look at my situation: rjtech refuses to send me a new notebook or a refund although they made a mistake in writing my address and probably causing the lost of my package. Fedex has confirmed they lost it but still there is no action from them. I don't think this is a good service.

English!? Why do we get nothing but ferners! I want someone who speaks A'mercun, not some fancy feren talk!

*WARNING* If'n you don't like novels, read no further.

Now you know I'm just kidding. So long as I can get basic communication going, what matters is that the person on the other end of the line knows what they're talking about and is interested in helping you. Mostly I have no such luck, but two days ago, when I was trying to set up a Netgear wireless print server that just would not work, I called up, intending to send the thing back, and ended up speaking to a technician with a fairly heavy accent but also impeccable knowledge of the print server - in about half an hour he walked me through the "secret" (i.e., not described in the setup manual:rolleyes: ) procedure, after which the server worked flawlessly. The problem, just in case anyone's curious, was that the wireless MAC for the print server was not the same as the MAC written on the outside of the case - the last digit of the wireless MAC was one value higher than the last digit of the MAC on the case. The "secret" procedure involved logging onto the print server's web admin page (IP 192.168.0.102, UID: admin, PW: password) and setting everything up that way.

True, I've had good support/sales agents who did not have English as their first language, so it's not just an English/non-English thing. But still, it's nice to talk to someone without having to think "now, what did he/she just say?" and "Did he/she understand what I said?" after every sentence. My communication skills are bad enough as it is. Put another layer of thinking there and I might as well be trying to talk in sign language.
