So currently there is no way to keep 7970M on full power in games?

i am getting high fps on bf3 , maybe beacuse I did some simple tweaks on my system. I cant remember all but i certainly remember these . I would like to share here. I will update list when I remember other tweaks lol

    1. did you try disable v-sync on bf3 ?

    2. download intel chip set instillation utility not from clevo but from intel since they have recent version
    http://downloadcenter.intel.com/

    2. make sure you set computer to high performance and add your game to ccc and set it to high performance both are different things .
    3. disable core parking, if you dont know what is google it this is very important since many gamers reported high fps after doing this
    here the program

Disable CPU Core Parking Real-Time - No Reboot

you should make sure you disable them for both options
    4. download this beta driver:

    AMD Catalyst

Make sure you read this other wise it will mess up you drivers and have to reinstall again:

when installing the beta driver , choose custom > select dis-select all or untick all (some of them cant un-tick leave it) > select only amd display driver and that is it and then install. please report here on result. thanks

Interesting point in disabling vsync. I almost always enable vsync in games to keep things smooth.

    So...

Disabling vsync in Battlefield 3 showed usage (via MSI Afterburner) hit the 90's many times during the sample time played. Graph showed usage peaking and dropping in the 70's-90's range.

I tested this in Battlefield 3 Close Quarters in Ziba Tower and Donya Fortress 48 player server with all settings set to Ultra (HIGH post processing AA) with NO deferred AA, motion blur on, with the motion blur dial set half way. Don't like full motion blur, but enabled it half way to smooth things out because vsync was off.

However I did change a few console variables to try to smooth things out since vsync is off.

    I set:

    RenderDevice.ForceRenderAheadLimit 3

RenderDevice.TripleBufferingEnable 0 (this setting I turned off because vsync was turned off. Enabling triple buffering is best when you have vsync turned on)

Disable vsync in Crysis 2, and saw usage peak similar to above during the sample period of time played.

I am on latest stock drivers (8.951.6.0).

Also, disabling PowerPlay and entering a BF3 game caused framerates to drop in the 20's or so and stay low despite BF3 being set to high performance. I now keep PowerPlay at default.

Not sure if this means much, but maybe it'll help the cause.

Also, have to mention another game, so this is a bit off topic, but in Max Payne 3, I had every setting maxed out, no vsync, no msaa, but with fxaa maxed out and usage was pegged for periods at 99%.

Wondering if others can reproduce similar results.

have tried all of these, problem still exists. Its worth noting that you can be getting good fps for certain parts of the map, then suddenly its less than half of that - i know some might say thats due to extra geometry in the new scene, but this did not happen with 6970m or GTX480.

This guy ( Battlefield 3 [Maxed Out] - Radeon HD 7970M on Clevo P170EM. - YouTube ) has great performance in BF3 with a P170EM + 7970. I've asked him to give details on how he installed everything, and will forward him to this thread.

EDIT: Looks like I can't PM him in Youtube unless I add him to contacts, and I have no idea how to do that. Anyone got a clue?

That's in single player - under utilization issue only exists in multi player.

That guy is not playing multiplayer but singleplayer campain which runs with no issues for everybody. The problem is when you play multiplayer on larger maps with more players on(64p-karkand, gulf of oman, operation firestorm, etc).

hey guys i discovered , I don't know if you have that option selected or not but let me tell you this:
    am
in catalyst control centre go to 3d application setting > scroll down to Anti-Aliasing Mode >set the bar to performance (multi-sample AA). My bf3 multiplayer is smooth and I decided to play with configuration to help you guys to solve the problem and that setting was set before ( i think i was trying to solve issues with deus ex HR, my first game on this laptop because its buggy game) . I don't remember if I set the setting before when I got my laptop but it certainly changed my fps in bf3. when I set it to quality the fps went down magnificently but on performable its smooth and high fps. Just reminder I am running amd driver beta 12.7 . Can you report if you the setting set to performance or not ? . if not can you set to performance and check the fps in bf3

its already on performance by default. Also checking high fps does not rule out the problem, you need to check utilization. Its not supposed to be dipping by 20-30%, this indicates that there is a problem and your fps will be far more unstable than it should be. Other cards all run near constant 95-99% utilization.

I understand my utlizi is 80-99% i have high fps on bf3 multi player , i am just trying to help people by duplicating things that i did that may or may not help other player issue. there is one thing , i it might be off but what it could be answer

i downloaded the amd hydra-vsision and amd codec package from here

    AMD Catalyst

then i also downloaded realtek audio codec and software because the old one make issue . i seen this because of Deus Ex lag fix from youtube video . i would suggest to do the following steps by the video described :

Preventing microstutters and sound lag in Deus Ex: Human Revolution - YouTube

I didnt know I had the same things the video user had

    relatek driver and codec :
    Realtek

by the way R2.70 will lower your volume output, also sounds with high pitch will sound terrible (not smooth). I tested that vs realtek driver that came with the disc yesterday.

Edit: I checked the video, that guy doesn't seem to know what v-sync and triple buffering do, v-sync doesn't increase the frame rate, it only caps the frame rate at your screen's refresh rate, by doing this it will prevent screen tearing but will also introduce mouse lag, microstuttering. And triple buffering is what helps to smooth up the stuttering when v-sync is enabled.

Try to play with low setting to see if you still get 80-99% utilization.

The sound effect you mean is EQ? The realtek panel for P150EM doesn't have any EQ control, only "Swap Center/Subwoofer Speaker", "Loudness Equalization" and "Room Correction". And all 3 are disabled by default.

What game settings and what multiplayer map is everyone using to test for utilization? As far as I know, I have not experienced any issues but would like to be sure.

launch MSI Afterburner and enable OSD display of your GPU usage, set everything on ultra in BF3, load operation firestorm - you will get nice smooth fps and 99% utilization at spawn areas, no go up one of those hills and take a look over the centre of the map. If you are on at least 32 player server your utilization will start dipping, in some places going bellow 60%.

You can try 3d mark06 too, if you score 20k you have utilization issue.
