Reading the title, you probably think im just another mainstream pc user who doesn't wanna experiment with a lesser-known name in computers. Well I was that way, until recently I bought a Sager NP8662. Loved the laptop; hate the company.
It had a dead pixel right off. No big deal; I knew I couldn't get it replaced since it was not under warranty, which is stupid, so I returned it RMA. HAd to pay 50 bucks for shipping, but hey, better than living with a dead pixel, right?
Until today they just notified me that they would be crediting my account for 250 dollars less than what i paid for the computer. Why? Because I "scratched" the computer. Considering the laptop never left a desk or my carpet in my room and i didn't have it for long at all...it's hilarious actually. After I've called the tech support today 5 times, they can't send me pictures of the alleged "scratches" because they're email servers are down. Reliable company huh. I filed a complaint with the better business bureau. Wanna know why resellerratings.com has their rating below a 6?! Because this company deserves it! They're unreliable, incoherent in transactions, cheap, and a sad excuse for a computer company. Beware all of you who are thinking about buying a sager. I just bought a Dell Studio XPS 16. I hate dell. But at least they're better than sager.
Wanna know something ironic? If the dead pixel insurance is 200 to fix the screen and the restocking feel is probably around 50 dollars...I wonder why they would credit my account for 250 less?? What a coincidence!!! lol

You have no reason to hate the company then... if you buy a laptop from them and liked it you shouldn't hate the company... this is a useless thread...
EDIT: you only have 8 posts

Oxymoron. 10char -
At least give us some qualifiers to those claims. Why do you love the laptop, and why do you hate company?
If none of those qualifiers are presented, why make a thread? I really can't see the purpose.
But then again, I can't see the purpose of tweeter either, which this reminds me of. -
read the post now

Sorry; had to edit the post. read it now

An oxymoron would be loved the company and hated the company. You can love a product a company sells and hate the company. Or maybe I'm just stupid...
-
Ah, good. That's more like it
-
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
Both are examples of it.
Anyway, I just read your updated post. Now I understand why you hate Sager. I would too if they pulled that kind of stunt on me. -
Laptop = Clevo, Company = Sager...
I full heartedly agree. If it weren't for XoticPC, I likely would have not gotten a Sager. I've had the scratch issue several times with them. Its absolutely ridiculous. Almost enough to not go with them again. If ANYTHING has a scratch on it, they dock ya the cost of the object with a scratch. My power adapter just went out, and they charged me $20 because there was a scratch on it. When I RMA'd my entire 5793, there was a scratch on the rear bezel; they charged me $129 for that. Makes me miss my Dell warranty pretty bad. Dell Complete Care = Throw your system out the windows, they ship you a new one
But the initial price of the system, the high end clevo builds, the support of XoticPC and other resellers such as PowerNotebooks, makes buying the system worth it to me. -
I agree; the build of this laptop was superb and its performance was incredible. I loved not having any bloatware on it or anything like that. Clevo is great like you said, sager, not so good. I think I will be pleased with my Studio xps. Zero tolerance for dead pixels, and like you said, they hook you up with a brand new system when something happens.

lmao. but i'm starting not to like the company myself. but i guess resellers is one of the main reason sager is still here. i am glad at the fact you can go barebones and order parts or buy them from someone else
my screen is alittle loose and i'm glad that i can go to rjtech and/or eurucom and get it for cheap.
also i see that my mobo is 480 which is alot but then if you don't have warranty and really want to keep your computer or don't have the money, it's a great deal/price. -
I hated the the name, that's about it. Sager sounds so weird. LOL
-
i RMA'd back to Pro-Star twice, with a couple scratches, and they never charged me a dime. I had read the forums enough to know that Sager tech/customer support is a joke, so I went elsewhere for my Clevo fix.
And there is part of my superficial other reasons for not going Sager. Clevo sounds much better to layman ears than Say-jer, plus I like the fact that Pro-Star and RJ Tech keep the original M860TU designation. NP8660(2) just doesn't roll off the tongue well. -
At the same time, there are third party warranty companies to go with...
-
Oh, that's how it's pronounced? I have always pronounced it "Say-ger" ("g" as in "gun" or "god").
But then again, I'm a dane, so I'm lucky to not have to actually _talk_ to communicate with you lot.

OMG. i didn't know it was pronouced like that. i'm now calling it the clevo d901c
is the "kle-vo" "sle-vo" i hope it's the first one. otherwise i'm calling it laptop. -
It says the "J" because it's followed by an "E". G -> "J" when it's followed by an E, I or Y. C -> S by the same rule. It would be Klevo with a card K because it's followed by an L.

Megacharge Custom User Title
Yeah I've heard bad things about Sager before.. If you want a Clevo it's much better to buy from Powernotebooks.com or XoticPC as they have extremely good reseller ratings and proven customer service, as well as having better prices than Sager, they also have representatives here at NBR who can help you when you need it. -
Yes... always try to purchase from resellers, not Sager itself. At least they allow you to do whatever you want with it without voiding the warranty (change CPU, GPU).
-
yup, buy from reseller are the best.. as such xoticpc!!
-
same from me ONLY buy sager from a reputable reseller, sager directly are terrible to deal with from my experiences with them directly.
-
Sager allows you to upgrade your RAM, CPU, AND GPU if you wish as well. I sent them an e-mail asking how much it would cost me to upgrade my CPU and they sent a reply back saying those sort of upgrades can be handled by the user with no risk to the warranty.
My only complaint with Sager is the one tech support person I talked with said the only way I could get any future BIOS upgrades was to send the 5793 back to Sager. Something about a license deal with Microsoft that prevented them from giving Sager customized BIOS files directly to customers. I thought that was complete nonsense so I got future BIOS upgrades directly from Clevo.
So now my 5793 has an X9000 CPU, 8GB of RAM and I'll stick with the 8800GTX because I see no reason to upgrade it. I also have a firewire drive attached to the 1394 port. The 5793 should last me for quite some time and I am very pleased with it. -
Sager's an importer/wholesaler primarily. XoticPC/Powernotebooks are retailers. Sager isn't really set up to do direct sales, I think, and thier CS shows that. The retailers on the other hand are, and thier CS shows that as well. That scratch stuff is nonsense though. Shoulda taken pictures of the thing first.
-
Yes, I know I shoulda taken pictures. If any of you want to see the pictures, just ask and I'll email them to you. It's hilarious. There are arrows pointing to literally nothing. Just black space on the back panel. But now that sager got my complaint from the Better Business Bureau (I was all serious business about this now I went Rambo on their a*sses) they are offering to credit my account if i withdraw my complaint.
-
Wow I just got my laptop back (again...) and WOW! Thermal Grease party! This is the worse I've ever seen it. The CPU and GPU both overheated during stock stress testing so I yanked the sinks and put some OCZ Freeze down. 25-30C cooler, after an overclock.
Took 3 weeks to get the system back this time. Getting longer and longer each time. Mobo and Vid card replacement. -
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
Welcome back, emike09. Glad you got your laptop back. 25-30*C must mean there was a thermal paste cheesecake on your CPU and GPU, haha.
