Why can't I order more than one Samsung SM951?

I am almost about to order a SAGER NP9772-S but I noticed in the m2 SSD options ,it allows me to select the Samsung SM951 only for the first m2 SSD but the 2nd slot I can only choose the Micron ones.....

This is not only on XOTIC PC but also on Powernotebooks, what gives? I wanted to order two of those Samsung SM951 to put them in RAID 0 mode

I asked a similar question because I'm sure Mythlogic would have stuck 2 of those SM951's in my machine if I asked them to. This is the reply that @ajc9988 said to me. So I went with the sata drive for the other slot.

The reason the second m.2 drive had different options is it is unable to use 4pcie lanes. If you get an ssd using 4 lanes in the first m.2, you would want a sata m.2 for the second. Otherwise, the cheaper option is to raid two m.2 pcie, but it THEN limits it to 2pcie lanes per drive. Best performance is a single 4 lane nvme m.2 ssd. So hope that helps explain the m.2 options.

ahh so you're saying that it's better to choose the Samsung SM951 as the OS drive and choose another M2 as like data storage drive? but why don't they have the 1TB 850 EV instead and are limited to those small 512Gb Micron M600s?

In my case I put the OS on a Samsung 850 EVO 500GB m.2 SATA III 6GB/s SSD m.2 and my Simulator program on the SM951. I didn't care about the load time for the OS as much as I want the faster speed of the SM951 for the application.

    I don't believe the 1TB m.2 exists yet.

You can get a 1TB 850 EVO mSATA and try to put it in using an adapter. No guarantee that it will physically fit inside the notebook though. mSATA is wider and shorter than M.2, not to mention the added z-height of using the adapter.

Yeah.....different connectors. Up to a month ago, I didn't even know what an m.2 drive was but have been reading all I can about it because I'm using it for a simulation as opposed to a game. I can't find anyone who has loaded the simulator on an SM951 so I'm real curious how this is going to work. If the speeds are as good as they say and my simulator is more CPU bound than GPU, this drive with the 4790k should be great.

I only loaded the OS on the other m.2 sata slot because in the simulation world, the conventional wisdom is to separate the OS and the simulator. I have no idea why but I'm not going to find out the hard way and had nothing else to do with that other slot anyway :)

Just wait for the new Clevo/ Sager notebooks... You'll be wasting your money on the current ones.. The new Batman replacement and the P370 replacement won't have these problems with the Skylake desktop CPUs..

You probably won't see any official dates for new computer models getting released, until Intel makes any kind of official announcement about new products and specific release dates, beyond just a certain quarter or half of a year.

Depends how much of a "problem" you see it as being. The performance of a single PCI-E 2.0 4x drive will certainly be plenty fast for the vast, vast majority of people.

There is a huge difference to be seen when going from HDD to SSD, but not so much if 2x PCIe 2.0 4x were available. It would have pretty benchmark results though :)

The other issue is the south bridge to cpu connection "only" has 1700MB/Sec max throughput so that caps all the storage in the system anyway.
