I've been really considering about buying sager 2090. I don't understand why people who ordered months it haven't received it yet.
I plan on ordering in a WSXGA Screen with 2GB ram, and i dont want it to take a long time to get it. I going to college at the end of August and i would like to get it before Aug 25 ish.
Am i pushing my luck? Or when August comes around all current orders will be fulfilled and you can order and receive the notebook in a week? Should i just order today and wait?
-
i just went for it, ordered yesterday, hope to get it at about the time u said, if not earlier, but i have no idea when it's supposed to come
-
I'm sure Compal is probably working really hard trying to fill orders for Dell and other big notebook distributors. This is probably taking their focus away from the production of the IFL90s. Its also hard for distributers to get all the parts together, as they need every major part in stock to fill orders. The parts that have caused most of the backlog up to this point are the high resolution screens , 2 Gig sticks of RAM, Bluetooth, and TV Tuners. Now that RAM and Bluetooth are not a problem, the distributers are trying their hardest to fulfill preorders. I'm sure you will notice that many people who pre-ordered standard configs say they are getting shipping confirmations or already have theirs.
Now if only there was an ETA on TV tuners. -
when was the original ship date for pre-orders?
-
Yep, apparently a vendor producing parts for Compal dropped the ball. That caused delays in Compal's production of the IFL90. Unfortunately, Compal also produces the Dell 1520 and its siblings. When the time came to allocate production capacity for the IFL90 and the Dell machines, Dell won. Compal surely has very good financial reasons to make such a choice. Screwing up on its promises to Dell would surely hurt a lot. Screwing up on its promises to resellers who sell Compals also hurts but not as much.
Such delays when new machines are released are not all that uncommon. Someone posted that they were going to buy an Asus last summer but Asus delayed and delayed and then that person bought a previous Compal model instead. -
Donald said in one of these waiting threads (can't remember which one specifically) that there was a delay in the production of the casing that goes around the screen. This caused a delay so Compal delayed the shipment and started filling Dell orders. This caused even more delays.
The original ship date for pre-orders was the end of June.

Mid-June was the original ship date for preorders, if I recall correctly.
-
Either way, it was a long freakin time ago.
EDIT: Hit the big 50! -
Well what can we do about the delays? Best we can do is be patient about it and try not to make a big fuss and make the situation worse than it already is. I understand that a lot of us have yet to see the product in our hands after paying more than a thousand dollars for it, but I am assured that the resellers are doing everything in their power to get the goods to us.
Believe me, it could be worse, especially in the case of some XPS m1330s. -
gotta admit that it's somewhat frustrating though, especially for those of us in the situation of heading out to college in autumn. not having the notebook in our hands by the time we leave can really complicate things
then again, you dont have to choose this notebook
I myself recently ordered though, but plan to cancel if it can't arrive by a week after sept -
So, at this point Bluetooth is no longer causing delays? Just wondering because I ordered mine with it...the only thing that should be an issue now that the 2 gig RAM sticks are available is the WXSGA+ screens, right? And even with that, they ARE starting to finally in.
-
1 x 2GB RAM is also in supply as well, so that's no longer a delay.
However, your WSXGA+ screen will be the cause for delay for you, unfortunately. -
THE WAIT IS KILLING ME! Im not ordering until I have confirmation that WSXGAs are being shipped to Sager, but its been almost a month now! I have one month left, so I can hold out some more, I REALLY want to get some gaming goodness going on soon
-
Yeah, but I don't start school until late September, so I can wait if I need to...but man, WSXGA+ is so much better than WXGA.
-
+The Price I got it for is a much better deal than my equally configured Sager. About $300 cheaper in fact.
+The CTRL key is nice and big and actually in the right spot! Gamers rejoice!
+Shipping time. In fact, I anticipate mine arriving early next week(Yes, ARRIVING, not shipping!).
+I've grown to love the preppy/casual modern look of the 1520.
And to put things into a little perspective, what you will miss out on:
-300 lost 3dmark06 points. Ahmahgah I lost 1.557777575 fps, repeating of course.
-Fingerprint reader. Pff. With a simple lock and a little paranoid cautiousness, the need for one is significantly minimized.
-Support. Pretty self-explanatory and hard to argue with, Dell =, Sager =
.
So in conclusion, if you're willing to take the same risk I'm taking, it may pay off in the end. Might not. Your results may vary, but with the 1520 and sager being practically brothers, the greater risk is me posting about what I've done in the Sager forums. Hey, at least I'm not switching to a mac.

As far as I can tell, the Dell 1520 is the machine that come closest to the IFL90 so I think it is a good choice as a replacement. It is first in line on my list as a replacement if I pull the plug. I've also looked at the Asus G1S. Its looks are not as bad in person as they are in Asus' promo pictures. However, the battery life is short enough to be a concern for me.

Wow, it's amazing to me how many delays exist out there for the newer laptops that have been released in the past month or so. I mean, really, delays for a TV tuner?! (I also get a little laugh out of the fact that most want them before college starts - heck, I remember when I went there were no cell phones, internet, laptops, and our dorm phone was 'ol school rotary.....lol)
I guess I was "spoiled" to some degree after ordering my PcMicroworks Black-hawk since I put in the order on June 26th and got it July 3rd. Awesome folks that have there at PcM. -
If a part is missing, the unit can't ship. It does not matter if it is a motherboard which is missing or a screw. Lenovo screwed up majorly last month when somebody over there edited a list of parts incorrectly. Machines started coming down the assembly line with one missing part (a bezel was missing). That prevented them from going further down the line and they started to pile up. Lenovo fixed the problem but not before a lot of people were pissed. At least Lenovo offered to send something as compensation to those who were affected (there was a choice of one of 3 items if I remember well). Compal at this point is not providing any form of compensation, unfortunately.

I've got to double post.
Could someone give me an email address that I can send a complaint to -

I already asked a few days ago if xoticpc would compensate us for the wait with an xoticpc bag (to help advertise them). Answer was no.
-
I'm not surprised that the resellers would not compensate us. Dell has been brought up a few times in other threads as the example to follow but Dell can amortize the cost of compensations over a large volume of sales. Resellers are much smaller than Dell and thus cannot do such amortization as easily. There's an advantage with dealing with a small reseller (like service) but there are also disadvantages (forget about ad hoc discounts).
The other thing with Dell is that their compensation is a Dell coupon. This kind of compensation is all to their advantage. First of all the coupon costs Dell less than the face value of it. Secondly, they are forcing you to buy from them again if you want to use the coupon. I'm not saying there's nothing you can find there worth buying but it seriously limits your options. -
Margins are already slim enough in this industry I really don't think we should expect compensation from a dealer who isn't at fault. I know both Justin and Donald would rather have had these ship when Compal said they would. Its unfortunate that they were given poor information during this time. They're in the unenviable position of being our contact, but they don't deserve to be the focus of blame.
-
I'm not saying its the resellers fault, I don't think anyone here is. Its obviously Compal, or the screen manufactures or other parts manufacture at fault here, the resellers are doing a great job!
-
-
so when you get it you pee your pants!?
-
I'll take a free bag.
-
When are Glossy WSXGA+ coming out, any new information on it?
-
-
yea yeaa matte ftw boys
-
soo.. does anyone know, for us college kids.. will we get them before late august? (specifically august 24th =D)
-
anyone have the wsxga+ "matte" 2090 ship yet?
-
im right there with you i need mine before aug 20
-
-
^^ wsxga+ matte as well (w/ 2X2GB sticks) as far as things go that may slow the order...
-
METAPOD's got the same setup as me. I really hope I get this computer before college starts in late August. Ugh...this is starting to worry me.
-
-
Just have a backup notebook in mind. right now im debating whether i should cancel if it cant reach me in time.. or bring the family's old celeron notebook and find some way to pick it up later .ill be quite far from home -
I have to say, I am tempted to cancel my order for a Inspiron 1520. My current order for the Sager NP2090 is still stuck at phase 1. I just configured a 1520 and more reasons why I want to switch:
Free RAM and HDD upgrade (2GB v. 1GB, 80GB 7200RPM vs. 160GB)
Free shipping.
It also gave me the option of either glossy or matte screen, free.
Shipping was also free (aside from a $20 tax).
Preliminary ship date was also 8/8 if I ordered today, a lot faster.
And the price was a kicker, normally $1,375, with a coupon code for $300off the final price was $1075.
And although I would prefer no OS installed as I want Windows XP, it even comes with Vista.
So right now im not so sure. I do want the good customer service that XoticPC is suppose to have, not to mention the fingerprint reader. And I'm not so sure abotu Dell's build quality. But there are some things I can live without so I'll have to think about it. -
i was also heavily considering the dell, until i starting seeing complaints about the screen quality
-
yeah, I'll more than likely keep 1520 on the backburner... ::sighs:: dells make me nauseous
-
im at 35 days now. there are also people before me that havent got anything yet either. but i can wait for mines for as long as it takes since i dont go to school anymore. but even then the wait is still hard to take.
-
Don't pull the plugs, college students!
I asked Donald tonight if, ordering today (well, yesterday now actually), I would receive mine before or on the 23rd of august and he said my chances were excellent and to quote "99.9%" so that's really very thrilling - yes, he had all my specs and everything. -
I hope the wait for this stupid computer is worth the wait for both versions of Vista.
-
metapod what screen did you get?
-
hheheh a .1% uncertainty, huh? Those guys never give out a solid date
Either way its good to hear the news! did you order the wxga model?
-
hopefully we get them soon, before i have to consider something else....
Why does it take so long?
