What the hell is this? I open some program and the screen suddenly gets the brightness turned up all the way. Why? I don't want my computer changing screen brightness without my permission!!

    Thanks!

Has anyone else experienced this? It cannot be only my machine that has the brightness change with the launch of certain programs!?

Is it possible the adaptive brightness option is turned on? Go to the control panel > hardware and sound > power options and then edit your advance power settings. In there, under the display options, there are settings for adaptive brightness, which will change the brightness of the screen like that. make sure those options are off. Hopefully that will do the trick.

    Hello Pat,

I do not have this setting, even when I click the

"Change Settings that are Currently Unavailable."

    Thanks anyway. :)
    Any other ideas?

Weird, you must not have it.

Oddly enough that's on my desktop... I know my TV doesn't support this...

What kind of programs is this happening in? Is there some kind of brightness or calibration options specific to those programs maybe? Is this happening all the time, or just when you are on a battery?

    Hi Pat,

It does not happen with Firefox, MS-Word or paint or bit defender. It only happens with my computationally intensive applications that I use for my engineering work, like MATLAB and ANSYS. This does not happen on any of my other win7 machines.

Do any of your other power profiles have a different brightness setting?

if you have an integrated intel gpu running in optimus mode..go into the intel gpu settings ..power options and see what actions are performed when its on power vs battery

one of them might be adaptive screen brightness

Yeah, there is a brightness option in the Intel HD settings. I wonder if that is set lower, and if your computer switches to the Nvidia graphics then it changes it to the normal screen brightness.

You're right. Was not thinking about the model, just what might cause that in general.
