Initially going through customizations I thought it was an error on the reseller's website when it stated that Matte 72% gamut 17inch was same in upgrade price as the Glossy 90% gamut 17inch.

Won't Matte 90% gamut 17inch be the equivalent of the Glossy 90% gamut 17 inch? Why is there no such screen or only some ppl have it? I noticed many NRB members mentioned that they spot a great difference from a 72% gamut to a 90% gamut it seems, some even bigger difference when they are on the 15inch screen with a jump from 60% gamut to 95% gamut.

Post screen upgrade is probably tedious and therefore I doubt I will upgrade it later if I do not now, while I can always upgrade to a SSD later. Guys did any of you get on the black friday Intel 160gb SSD from $300+ to only $120+? Man, my friend bought the last one and I was like crap. Ok I am going off-topic here but will the primary HDD be installed below the DVD drive or in the easily accessible slot? I am talking about configurations in a PM8170.

Thanks, any feedback is highly appreciated. I also read that 120hz 3D screens are not that great because for 3D effects to really shine they need depth from a larger screen and 17inch wont cut it, is this true? How do you guys like your 3D gaming? Does your eye hurt btw after watching so much 3D? You know how some ppl get headaches in the cinema when watching 3D movies? Well I am not one of them but when you game for like many many many hours, will it strain your eyes? How do you guys feel behind the 3D gaming LCD over many hours? Thanks again.

There isn't a 90% color gamut matte 17" screen because the screen makers (AUO, ChiMei, LG, Samsung, etc.) haven't been commissioned to make them. Now unfortunately for us those guys will basically make any-kind of monitor you want to the specs you desire. However, you have to buy 100,000 of them at a minimum to get them made to order, so basically what Clevo does is they stock the screens that are basically made to order by the bigger guys. The 17's chief purchasers in the 90% glossy is ASUS/Dell, and the 72% matte's are what are called a stock screen by AUO as in its a standard screen that they make. You'll see all 17.3" Matte finish FHD (1920x1080) screens are all 72% no matter the manufacturer. The 90's however are high-end and made to order. The same with the 15.6" 95% gamut screens, they are made to order for Lenovo and Dell (Matte and Glossy). Basically anything over 72% is considered high-end and application specific.

Now if you have 8 Million USD and a place to store 100K LCD panels, then we would like to buy some ;)

Thanks Mythlogic for that awesome response. It is so hard to decide between 15" and 17" laptops. The P150HM from my most recent discovery has a rubber finish which I love and has the 95% glossy/matte screen, while the P170HM has more desktop space, and basically bigger screen. Wonder how should I process this tradeoff and determine the winner. I am using a 15" HP right now that was really cheap when I got it off bestbuy, want to get a 2nd laptop for gaming because of upcoming winter (spending most time indoors) and also for skyrim and D3. Wish we all only had 1 size and no options lol.

Oh yah, I care not about the portability or the weight of it. I actually plan to get a big shoulder bag for my 2 laptops when I fly. Probably be heavy so I am prepared for it.

This was a tough choice I had make a little ways back too. At first I thought about getting the 90% glossy and putting one of those viewguard matte things over it but a colleague of mine said it made his screen look grainy and worse than ever and had air bubbles which were almost impossible to get out no matter how hard you try.

My first model had the stock glossy screen and it died about a week later so I ordered my replacement with the AU 72% matte and couldn't be happier with how it performs and how much nicer the matte doesn't look like a mirror.

Also, on the second HDD slot. It's literally like a 5 minute drill, a couple screws to remove a panel then a couple more to slide the dvd drive out and the slot is right there.

Hey thanks Aero. I just realized I do not even know what LCD screen I am using right now lol. It is a HP G62 laptop and it is the stock screen. I think it should be like 15" 60% gamut matte. Not sure if I am correct, but it definitely does not look glossy so it should be matte? Or is matte something else altogether from a regular screen? Wait I think it is, but my screen does not really have much reflection though. Since I will only be using my laptop indoors, will a matte screen be a big deal? What about the lighting in my room reflecting off my glossy screen? Is it irritating or do I have to play in a totally dark room?

The 17" glossy 90% gamut is a $200 upgrade, kind of expensive compared to a $95 upgrade on the 15" to matte/glossy 95% gamut. I have another question as well concerning the color calibration. If I buy a high gamut 90/95% screen will that mean I will need to get a color calibration done to it? Says it is a CD on Malibal, will that mean that I can do a clean install and use their CD for the color calibration? Seems like a color calibration is a bit expensive but a must when buying such a nice screen, what do you think?
