Yesterday I received my NP9150 with the Killer Wireless 1202 Network card and for some reason the WiFi LED is light is not working. Is there are to make the LED light up?

This has been a common questions. The light wont work with the Bigfoot cards, theres no fixes we've seen yet.

Wireless LED light is working on mine though, but it's a killer wireless 1103N. It'll only start working after you install hotkey program.

I wonder how that happened, thats great! We even checked with Sager and they said it doesn't work with any Bigfoot. Most people i assume will have the hotkey program installed so they can control the backlighting on the keyboard.

What I did was install bigfoot driver first, reboot and install hotkey. The LED surely only lights up after the hotkey is installed when I was testing, and it's blinking a lot right now as the network traffic goes. The EC I'm using is 1.00.05EU, if that has anything to do with the LED.

    Thanks hackness!

Kage, can you give that method a shot and let us know if it kicks the LED's on for you.

Could it be that it's an issue with the 1202?

    This is with a 1103:

It could be a combination of bios version, hotkey version, etc. What hotkey is it that you're running? I've reinstalled hotkey before but it never started working(version 6.0045, 6.0069, and a few in between there of which their version numbers I don't remember). It's also possible that it only works on the 1103 and not the 1202.

    Hotkey version 6.0030
    BIOS version 1.00.05
    EC version 1.00.05EU

All are pretty old but they work pretty well :D

    Hi all,

For the Bigfoot 1202 card you can get your wireless led going on a Clevo p170em by changing the following entry in the registry (simply search for "gpioPinFunc0", it should be somewhere under CurrentControlSet):

change value of gpioPinFunc0 from 1 to 4
reboot of turn off bigfoot under device manager and then back on again

The problem is in the install inf under [ledcontrol2.reg]:

    [ledcontrol2.reg]
    HKR, , gpioPinFunc0, 0x00002, "1"
    HKR, , gpioFunc0ActHi, 0x00002, "0"

Now I want it to blink with activity but I've not managed that yet. I sent a mail with this info to bigfoot, no answer or confirmation yet.

Nice find OnePingOnly. I made some searches using those registry entries and apparently this is a problem with many Atheros drivers. I've tried changing gpioPinFunc0 to 3, 4, 8, 10, and so on as other drivers suggested for their specific cards to see if it would enable the blink on activity but nothing.

Hackness, I have a question for you regarding the working light on your NP9150. Does it flash or is it a steady light? If it does flash then would you mind taking a look in this registry entry( HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class\{4D36E972-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0011 ) to see what the values for gpioPinFunc0 and gpioFunc0ActHi are on your notebook?

EDIT: I did some testing and I've got the LED flash working, sortof. It flashes intermittently and speeds up with network usage. I'd still prefer it to stay on at idle instead of a constant flash but I suppose this is somewhat decent. You have to add this key to the registry directory that your gpioPinFunc0 setting is stored in(should be the same as I stated above).

    ActivityLEDFunc DWORD 49 (hexadecimal)

Note. You still need to change 'gpioPinFunc0' to 4 otherwise it will be reversed(light on when wifi off).

It does flash as the network goes and is not reversed, adaptor on = light on, adaptor off = light off. By the way I can't seem to find the 2 DWORDs you mentioned on mine:

That's odd, but then again I checked my other two netbooks and only one of them has gpioPinFunc0. Could you take a peak through the other folders(0-13) while you're at it? Windows uses all of those for various WLAN drivers so there's a chance that they're stored elsewhere.

By the way, for some reason mine has quite a few more entries than yours. No idea what to make of this.

Also, the reversed thing wasn't directed at you. It was just a warning to the others. For now everything works properly except that it blinks continuously(while connected(maybe 2 times per second)) and with traffic which gets fairly annoying.

Ah, I left the non-reversed thing as a side note. By the way I've been through 0000 to 0013 and I couldn't find those 2 DWORDs.

My p150em with a Bigfoot 1102 has a blinking LED so long as the "Wireless" option in Hotkey is turned on, regardless of whether I'm connected to a wireless network or not.

That reg tweak worked for me being using it since the beginning (win 7), I use it stead instead of flashing... My hotkey progam for win 8 now doesn't have the wifi switcher, the win 7 version had (just a side note since it works the same regardless)... For the BT mine always worked without tweaking anything... BTW my card is the BigFoot 1202

This is awesome. Thanks for the info on how to fix.

Glad someone found the tweak to fix the LED.

I knew it was driver related as worked under linux. Hated everyone saying it was a bios thing when I knew it wasn't lol... I posted " http://forum.notebookreview.com/sag...ndows-but-works-linux-so-not-bios-stated.html" originally but never got any responses back.

Anyway that said I am running Windows 8 x64 and my BT LED works fine (always has) and now my Wifi one does.

Not sure why anyone would have troubles with the BT one.

That said I do NOT install the Killer software, I just install the nic drivers and the BT manually. I am using the driver from the install package. For BT I am actually using the one provided via Window Update as it was much newer.

I am also an NP8150 w/ 1202 running Hotkey 3.03053 which is the last one from my understanding that is for my model. YMMV for the newer laptops.
