I might be totally wrong, but the Clevo FAQ suggests that the Widow PC Sting is a Clevo, much like the Sager 5790. Well and good.

If you head to the WidowPC site and start customizing, it has a few different options so perhaps its not the same Clevo base, or perhaps its closer to the Sager 9260.

Anyway, it seems _really_ weird that a similar spec machine to the Sage 5790 is $1000 or $1500 more in price.

So either WidowPC is out of date with pricing, or theres something entirely different going on. Anyone clue me in? :) I'm just curious whats going on over there..

I will not recommend WidowPC for getting bang for the buck.

The say that they price-match... but of consistently refused it to many people (that have contacted me about it).

I would recommend to look towards (for best prices and support):

WidowPC has always charged more than identical PC's from other vendors (pushing the point that they apparently tweak the systems for extreme/power performance). I checked out the notebooks they currently have on their site, and they are all old generation (pre Santa Rosa and dX10 graphic chips). Towards the end of last year I believe Chaz wrote a review on the Sting, and gave it a good rating, but against the new systems that are out now it definitely isn't worth the price.

If you're considering a Clevo or Sager system your better off getting it from one of the other retailers that charge a more reasonable price, and sell the current generation models (like XoticPC or PowerNotebooks - like Gophn said - if you live in the US).

I ordered already from Xotic, so I'm just using Widow as a way to show how good a deal I got :p WidowPC was the first boutique shop I stumbled across, and I really liked the look of them .. but after looking around, I've grown to adore the look of the Sager instead, and certainly the price. I mean really -- newer tech and $1500 less? wtf :/

Even then -- does Clevo still assemble the older models? Perhaps WidowPC just didn't update their website. Either way -- out of date site, or out of date tech .. both aren't forgivable in the screne they're in.

most vendors sites try to keep up to date.. but technology can progress pretty fast.

definitely overpriced..if you really want a custom notebook, then go to xoticpc and have them paint your notebook...much cheaper then widowpc, and its unique.
