I have the Intel 5300 in my M860TU but it seems that it is having disconnection issues in Win7 RTM x64.

Do you guys have recommendation of other wifi card brand like Atheros or something?

I know that the Intel cards are suppose to be on top when it comes to networking especially with desktop LAN cards but with mobile laptop cards, do they really suck? I may be wrong though.

Use Atheros AR5008 instead. Had never a issue with that.

Yeah, saw them on eBay. Are they ton times better than those Intel cards?

I've noticed their max speed is just 300Mbps while the Intels can reach 450Mbps (when a router that supports up to that speed is available that is).

The max wifi router i see now is 300Mbps..... I use a TP-Link W941N router which uses also Atheros chip, the max speed i can get for direct download from microsoft.com is 3MB/s. But also depends on the local Internet speed.

Yeah, most N routers today have max connection speeds of up to 300Mbps setting aside the Internet speed.

But are those Atheros really better than the Intels?

Well my router has a Atheros chip so i think i should use the same in WLAN card to get a max performance....And the Fn + F11 will not work if the AR5008 card installed. it´s always active.

Oh really? Why won't it work? That's weird.

And is the Atheros 5800 also better than the Intel 5350?

I think you'd be crazy to go from a 5300 to an Atheros.
You are going to be better off trying to find the cause of your problem. It is not because "the 5300 sucks."

    Why?

Well, with Win7 the 5300 is always disconnecting by itself and cannot complete transfer of large files.

I've tried to plug in a 5100 and it works fine.

Why do you consider going from a 5300 to an Atheros crazy?

I would consider the 5300 to be a top card. Crazy is definitely too strong of a word :p , but I personally would stick with a 5100/5300. If a 5100 works in the same notebook then the there is a good chance the 5300 is downright defective. I would look for an in warranty replacement if possible.

Oh ok. Is there warranty directly form Intel? I bought this laptop from the dreaded PCMW, so I'm losing the 3-year warranty I have. They suck.
