    Hello,

I have a Sager NP9170 purchased last year around this time. Will the Clevo GTX 680m units you see for sale on ebay work on my system or would I need to contact Sager first for a BIOS update?

    Thanks!

Ahh I see. So the system BIOS would not prevent me from using the card at all, say within my Windows 7 OS environment? I just want to double check if I need to update my system BIOS FIRST before attempting to install this card

I have the following from my system BIOS

    ME FW VERSION: 8.0.4.1441
    BIOS REVISION: 1.00.04bLS1
    EC REVISION: 1.00.04SA

Any and all help will be much appreciated.

    Thanks!

Should work no problem as long as it's indeed a Clevo card.

Yes Clevo cards are compatible. The Sagers are Clevo laptops, after all. :)

Somewhat related question - I plan on upgrading to the 680 once prices (hopefully) come down after the 780 release. Is there any way to physically distinguish a Clevo 680 from say, a Dell version? I know it can be done once plugged in, but i am hoping for some sort of visual cue on the hardware itself.

I think the card is the same but you'd need to flash the p170em specific vbios and you'd also need the correct heatsink. Someone please verify this.

PCB colour and ram amount along with inductor brand.

Dell are green coloured with delta brand inductors and 2GB of ram.

Just don't get hung up on the which PCB color is better? debate.

Because obviously, if it's red colored PCB and has racing stripes or lightning bolts on it, it's faster...

But yes, to iterate: Dell uses the green PCB.

Where did that come from? It's just a way to visually identify the cards.

    Clevo: Blue + 4GB of GDDR5

Sure, that's the premise here. Some like to argue that different colored PCB yields different performance, is all.

It has to be black with go faster stripes to break records ;)
