If this question has already been brought up I apologise in advance. I own a M570U and am running Vista 64-bit. I currently have 2 gigs of ram and was wondering if I would notice a difference in gaming performance if I had 4 gigs of ram?

yes, the 32bit vista you are running only recognizes up to 3GB RAM

64 bit will make it better for sure (w/ 4GB)

You see an improvement by going to 4G of ram. It seems to be somewhat debatable on how much in benchmarks. But in overall system performance and ability if your applications support it or you are doing a lot of multi-tasking you will see the difference. From what I have seen in the benchmarks I am running they are not utilizing the 4G and testing only to 2G and this may be why there is not a lot of increase in the benchmark.

I think it depends on the game. If you're running only the game, I think 2gb is plenty, and if the game doesn't utilize memory that much, then you won't see any increase in performance.

I upgraded my desktop from 2GB to 4GB specifically for Crysis. When I started the game it used to stutter for about 5 seconds and then be fine and it stuttered a bit when saving checkpoints. With 4GB the stuttering doesn't happen and I think my average framerates went up a bit.
There was a marginal performance increase in overall system performance, but it was not that noticeable.

It's not worth it in my opinion to upgrade to 4GB at this time but if you have the money you will see a noticeable but small improvement in performance.

Thank you guys for your input. Crysis is the game that I am running currently. It has been running in 800 X 600 and is still choppy. I have it set to medim in graphics.

I was considering purchasing the upgrade from Crucial. Is there a specific brand that I should get?

I don't think the brand would matter to much as long as the quality is decent. So far to me I don't think the 800MHz is worth the cost either. But I can't really tell.

There'll be a slight improvement in performance in 4GB, although the difference will be minimal/huge difference depending on what type of games you run.

With Vista64.. yeah you should get 4gig... or get XP and stay with 2gig :)

Anyway Vista is just the new Windows ME... it will die soon enough

Not sure about vista, 32 bit was really nice, 64 bit is unique in areas but it works well. I think it is going to be around for awhile. But it could be the "official" beta test for something new.
