This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved. For current discussions, many NBR forum users moved over to NotebookTalk.net after the shutdown.

    Many many users of egpu.io tested these solution in real word gaming (not only benchmarks) and many of them discovered those losses of performance. I am a big fan of egpus if you need an ultrabook and for casual gaming but they are not perfect atm. May be with the next tb4 they will be better. Loss of performance is less for AW Amp but that uses a proprietary solution so it is not compatible with other non AW laptops.

    Yes, it's a little box with a cable. For me, it's a little box and a cable too much. I do mind taking that little box with the cable upstairs/downstairs, and inside/outside the cupboard every day. To me, a desktop makes as much sense as an eGPU, especially because if you're using an eGPU, you really need a secondary screen or your performance is bottlenecked twice.

    An DGPU for me meant I had a single device, that I could pick up and go for office tasks and then when I got home I could plug in and have all my data there. It had iris pro for some basic performance on the go and a titan x water cooled in the dock.
