Im considering buying the Toshiba 1,5TB 2,5inch harddrive when it gets released. Do you think the M570TU will support 1,5TB harddrives? I am asking because I know some laptops have BIOS limitations on HDD size.

    Thanks.

Not by the numbers Toshiba released, it's too big.

He means physically too big - the standard size for laptop HDDs is 9.5mm high but the tosh 1.5TB is 12.5mm high. It would work in the ODD bay, but wouldn't fit in the normal HDD bay.

It is physically too big to fit but any 9.5mm drive of any capacity should work fine.

Ah okay. So there's a 3mm difference. BUT is that really a problem? Cant you just get longer screws? And the extra height wont matter because the clearance towards the cover is more than 3mm...

But maybe the SATA connector wont fit. I dunno lol

The SATA connector is ok. You do not need longer screws, the hdd is just thicker the the usual laptop hdd. If you can stuff it in it should work.

The problem here is that the thickness of 12.5mm HDD's is because the casing is taller. The SATA connector is still at the bottom of the drive along with the board, meaning that the connector will not be able to reach. The only way to shoehorn a 12.5mm drive into the M570TU is to use a bridge cable and anchor the HDD using a creative method such as tape since the cable will need some room.

It's a really messy route to go and I don't advise the M570TU (or any modern notebook unequipped) to take a three platter drive. Just wait for higher capacity 9.5mm drives to release, or pick up a ODD caddy and dump that Toshiba drive in there.

I thought he menat that the sata cionnector is different because the hdd is 12.5 mm thick.

Either way, it's a no go unless the OP picks up a bridge.
