    Hey guys,

I'm pretty sure you are all aware of the product razer will be releasing soon :

Specifically the external gpu enclosure. They said it is up to the manufacturer to support it as it is a combination of BIOS and driver settings.

    What do you think?

Seeing how some of these eGPUs were just announced, I don't know if I have seen any company take a stance on if they are going to be able to use them or not. Hopefully they will. But as the release date is still out a little while on the core (first half 2016?), we might need to see some more information from Razer on what will work with it first, then maybe some updates from manufacturers.

I'd be curious to hear what Prema thinks about this though.

Theoretically any Thunderbolt3 approved eGPU box should work with manual offline switchovers.

The key is the seamless switch-over and cross-GPU support (ie displaying 3D from the eGPU back to the internal display and vice-versa). This part basically needs MSHYBRID (ie Optimus) support baked into the BIOS then the whole thing operates similar to a regular Optimus laptop setup.

That then brings another complication which is the support of multiple dGPUs from nVidia/AMD. For machines which already contain a dGPU (P700DM series for example) the Nvidia driver would also need to be updated for such a scenario and basically do Optimus between 2 Nvidia GPUs instead of 1 Nvidia + 1 Intel.

In theory, I hope it works that way that maybe some bios and driver tweaks might do the trick. Might have to wait on more info from Razer to come out to see what supported graphics cards will work with it, and maybe see it in action. Maybe at more events like CES or PAX, or if they send out some review units.

This is my concern. I'm suspecting this won't be compatible with any current Clevo systems.

Well, shouldnt a separate display work for sure? As in a display connected directly to the egpu cage.

it does say here that it is certified. https://thunderbolttechnology.net/product/clevo-p870dm

It's not Thunderbolt 3 certification I'm wondering about. It's multiple dGPUs and - in the case of systems with hybrid graphics - Optimus. The Razer Blade Stealth seems to have been designed with the Core device in mind. We really won't know for certain until it's tested against, to be fair, I'm just skeptical about any Clevo systems interfacing with and utilizing it.

With respect to the P870DM you linked, I'm less concerned about that model considering it has no Optimus and can be outfitted with a 980.
