Will the Sager 5792 utilize DDR2 800 RAM or will it clock it down to 667? And if it does take advantage of the DDR2 800, is the performance boost noticeable?

As megabud said, no. The RAM will run at 667mhz, its a limitation of the chipset used in the Santa Rose platform.

its not too bad, the DDR2-800 does not make a difference (not even marginally)

Look at who is offering it...you don't mention anyone in particular but you can count on the fact that they are either making an innocent mistake through a total lack of knowledge, or they are intentionally trying to deceive in an attempt to get a "competitive edge" while fooling the less informed.

For the record, I benchmarked my desktop running with the same RAM at 667MHz and 800MHz frequencies and found there to be absolutely no difference in performance. As Gophn stated, it does not matter. More RAM = better. The memory frequency is not the Core 2's problem, especially in a notebook.
