While I'm not planning on purchasing a laptop before November, this upcoming buddy has already caught my attention. I have never worked on a laptop before, so upgrading is a totally new field to me ("new" as in I didn't even know some laptops are user upgradable until last month!).
Unfortunate for me, my budget doesn't allow me to get the GTX480M SLI. So will I be able to just buy the laptop with a single 480M and possibly snap another 480M later to form a SLI system?![]()

^^^^^ From the information we have right now it should be VERY upgradable. The CPU, Memory, Video card, hard drives, etc, will be very accessible.
-
So my solution will probably be doable? That's a relief to me since money is not a problem until it reaches $2500..
-
now a days, all those laptop that is in the i5-i7 range are almost all of them are upgradeable, just need to know how to do it, cause some manufacturer are not easy to access it.
-
Well I'll most likely get this one if it is upgradable like I planned. Where do I buy notebook parts though? Searched GTX 480M on google and got no result.
-
RJ Tech is a good spot for notebook parts specific to Clevo machines.
-
First, there are still issues with the system and Clevo is doing everything to fix those in a timely manner, but it will take awhile, IMHO.
In any case, don't go for a preorder! Some resellers (like Eurocom) like to play the game of "I'm the first" and charge extra but they won't deliver it any sooner than the rest. Wait till most resellers have it, then choose the most affordable/respectable one that suits you best, - you'll save hundreds of $ (maybe even enough to go for SLI rightaway).
-
A single GTX 480M will almost be as expensive as a laptop itself so that is another thing to consider.

There's no guarantee however, that those cards will ever make their way into X7200. -
-
Right now, the 480m is pure theft.
The best solution, if you are a fanboy ( i myself would preffer to get nvidia, but if ati is faster and cheaper, well, that says it all) is to get 460m or 470m sli.
Since these will be based on geforce104 gpu, probably won't end up so expensive.
Numerous tweaks had to be done in order to fit a geforce 100 gpu within thermal envelope, i think, and maybe that's why it's so damn expensive. Whatever reasons, right now it's just not worth it.
So if we want nvidia at the same lvl of performance of the 5870 and dx11, waiting for the 460m/470m is the best thing to do.
Anyway, until x7200 is gonna be present to most resellers, we will definetly have 460m/470m.
So no worries. All we have to do is wait. -
Yes, 460M or 470M would be the right solution, but there is still not much I can dig out of the internet.. I hope they will come out early enough so I can read some benchmarks before I actually spend on this thing.
-
Lol, 6870M's benchmarks might leak sooner with the pace chosen by Nvidia.
-
Although to us true fanboys nothing is comparable
-
Right now the 5870m is kinda old. It's very funny to see people compare this model to the new 480m since it should, in theorie, blow away the 5870m by 50%.

Will the x7200 be user upgradable?
