    that wont work.

the latest notebooks are using a SATA interface in their optical drives.

the one in the link is using the previous IDE/ATA interface.

This was, and still is, the alternate optical drive for the 5797 configuration from PCTorque. Just checked it. Knew I had seen this on one of the vendors.

I suppose you could always look for one of those SATA to IDE conversion kits and slap that on the back of an old IDE drive!

'Course, shoehorning that thing, and the associated wiring, back into your notebook might be, shall we say, a challenge. ;)

This statement makes me concerned. I have a 9280 enroute from xoticpc with only one HD. My plan was to keep the price as low as possible to facilitate wife approval, but then add HD's during the summer. It MUST be as simple as opening the HD slots, connecting the power and SATA, buttoning up the access panels and then enabling them in Vista, right?

Putting the proper drive into the system should be about as simple as you describe (but I will certainly defer to XoticPC, Powernotebooks, Kobalt Computers, or anyone else who actually knows the system and can therefore say better than I) - I was just being cheeky about that SATA-to-IDE adapter.
