    Hey everyone,

I have a Sager laptop(NP8275) i purchased from XoticPC. I am running with the GPU to the 8970M which has been an amazing card(ultra settings at 40-60FPS in BF4).

I recently upgraded to Win 8.1 from 8 and the PC forced me to install the updates after the upgrade. After rebooting for installing the updates, the PC boots to a black screen.

I didn't have much data onit so i just reinstalled windows. Fortunately doing so allowed me to get a display again(the whole time this has occurred, the cursor WAS appearing), however yet again another force update occurred and i was rebooted to a black screen.

Does anyone know which exact update is causing this? HAS anyone seen this issue?

The problem is that the Intel graphics drivers that MS supplies (or automatically downloads) with Windows 8.1, totally suck and break the display.

I would try to do a clean install of 8.1 if you can. That is the best way.

Here is how to get the ISO : How to download the official Microsoft Windows 8.1 ISO | How To - CNET

Remember to choose the ISO option.

Here are the generic install keys (this is legal for me to put here, since you can;'t activate with these keys!) Remember, after the install you will need to activate with YOUR windows key.

    XHQ8N-C3MCJ-RQXB6-WCHYG-C9WKB (8 Pro)
    334NH-RXG76-64THK-C7CKG-D3VPT (8)

Choose the right key for you edition. No, using pro key won't upgrade your standard edition :D

After you install, use your Windows 8 key to activate!

    OR

If you just want to upgrade, download the upgrade (same method as above, except choosing the "install from desktop later" option), then download the latest 8.1 Intel Graphics drivers from Intel (it won't let you install them in 8, but make sure the executable is downloaded). Then before you do upgrade, disconnect from the Internet and REMOVE your Intel graphics drivers.

Then do the upgrade and let it reboot.

    **IMPORTANT PART**

Now, the first time Windows 8.1 boots into the OS after the upgrade or clean install,

THE FIRST THING YOU MUST DO IS GO TO INTEL'S SITE and download the latest Windows 8.1 display driver BEFORE YOU REBOOT.

If you don't, you will get the black screen again and must restart, or try to get into safe mode (have fun with that :D)

If you have any questions, go ahead and msg me

I don't think it will let you. It says you have the wrong version of Windows

Did you have all of your updates for Win 8 prior to upgrading to 8.1?

It's a BIOS issue with 8970M & UEFI mode, please update to the latest BIOS & EC (link in my signature) to resolve the problem.
