I just made the purchase of the Sager Np2090 notebook. I have question about what operatating system is best for me for the thing i do on it.

    1. Games ( cod 4, gears of war maybe crysis LOLZ)
    2. Programming Visual Studio
    3. MS Office
    4. xfire, ventrilo, teamspeak, firefox etc

The laptop comes with 64 bit Vista on it already but.. im removing that for sure just because its not stable and gaming wouldnt be good on it or would it be ???

So should i install vista 32 bit? or xp. I would do xp without a question but people have to told me that laptops that come with vista are tempered for vista and xp might lag and doesnt have all the drivers? IS this true??

If i go xp will i notice huge - or a noticeable difference????

    THANK!

Vista-XP performance difference is very minimal. I don't think there is a visually noticeable difference in performance, not for me at least.

I would stay with 64 Vista if I were you. Dell doesn't even support 64 bit Vista but for me it still manages to be stable as a rock for me. Just play around with your drivers and you'll find the perfect match.

I originally had vista x64 on my NP9261, but I found it a bit too buggy. Then I switched to vista x86 and I was more pleased with that (even if it only recognized 3 of my 4GB of RAM). However, I felt that games were not as fast as they should be, so I eventually switched to XP SP3 RC1. Since then I've seen a 15% FPS increase in all my games. I think it's obvious that Windows XP will outperform vista in DX9 titles - since it uses much less resources.

Eventually if you plan on playing DX10 exclusive games, then you'll have to switch to vista. But imo, XP should be fine for now as no games out at the moment seem to utilize DX10 in it's full potential

My impression, from what I've read around the net, is that XP will give you a bit better performance right now. You can always switch back to Vista 64-bit when the OS and its drivers improve, and when more dx10 games arrive.

sager's vista 64 bit drivers work very well, i don't know what you mean by being buggy. I switched over to 64bit and i wouldn't go back, my NP2090 feels faster and i feel that i am getting almost maximum performance out of it.

try out vista 64 bit before switching over to XP, most, if not all your programs should work.
