Hey all,
this may end up being more of a Windows question but figured I ought to start here - this morning, Windows apparently decided it needed to download an Nvidia driver. Normally I wouldn't find this odd if it weren't for the fact that I thought Nvidia drivers are generally handled by the GeForce experience app(or John's driver app in our case). Also odd because GeForce app shows a newer version put out on 4/24/2017 as being available.
The update history shows this
NVIDIA - Display - 4/12/2017 12:00:00 AM - 22.21.13.8178
Curious if anyone happens to know what's in this / what this is for? Everything appears to still be ok so I'm not too worried, but still a little weirded out that Windows updated itself with an older driver.

It takes some time for any driver to appear in Windows Update as it has to be verified first. The latest version is always available directly on the manufacturer's site, in this case GeForce.com.
You should install the latest drivers from 24.04.2017. This fixes some major issues like black screen due to display driver crash, graphics corruption, bad performance, high GPU idle voltage and few other issues which you can read in the release notes.
Oh and Windows did not install an older driver. Technically that driver must have been newer than the one u had on ur machine.

I just had a situation. I let windows update it self and was NOT looking what updates it is downloading. Went to make espresso for me. By the time I returned 4-5min it wanted to restart and of course I restarted it. When it was done I went to see what updates it installed. WOW!!! GeForce drivers! Really??? No nVidia Experience nor Control Panel. So ...
Wen't to nvidia.com and downloaded latest drivers from site... I mean WTF Microsoft!?

If you notice any problems, do a clean uninstall using DDU and then install the latest drivers again.

Ah gotcha. I didn't realize Microsoft would be pumping out updates too, understandable but unexpected.

Not to mention unacceptable. They should NEVER install any driver (or an OS update for that matter) without an explicit written invitation from the owner of the PC to do so. But, things are no longer right in the world and they are digi-Nazis of the scummiest sort. You can use O&O ShutUp and disable all that filth, and run Services.msc and disable Windows Update service.hmscott, sortofsleepy and Papusan like this.

If you want to disable automatic driver updates for specific pieces of hardware, follow the instructions here.

For most people I think it's a good idea, there just needs to be a way to turn it off! -
Ah! Didn't know that could be done, thanks for the tip!

Overall this experience reminds me of one of the things i miss about OSX, heck of a lot of updates but at the least I didn't have to install anything involuntarily :/

All this MS BS has me missing MacOS more and more every day. It doesn't help that I use a MacBook Pro for work. Firing up games on the P670RS makes the pain somewhat bearable, but I don't know how much more I can take. Going back to Windows 8.1 isn't really an option because I have some games from the MS Store that I don't want to lose completely (Forza Horizon) or have to re-buy (Quantum Break). It's so frustrating because at its core, Windows 10 is a great operating system. -
You could get an XBox One to play those MS Store games, right? I think that MS has a play on either box option now don't they?
Windows 10 update system downloads Nvidia driver?
