I just installed windows 7 on my new NP8170. I installed 37 updates that windows said I needed to. It told me to restart the computer, which I did, and now it has been on the "shutting down" screen for 20 minutes. Did I do something wrong? How can I get this to work? I don't want to have to hold down the power button.

Just hard power it off if you're tired of waiting and restart it. It's probably still working on the install though, which is why it seems to be hanging. There won't be any issues if you just power it off and restart though. Worst case scenario, it didn't finish installing and needs to do it again.

I had this same problem after installing tuesdays? updates. I hard powered it off, and it seems to be working fine, benches are more or less the same, temps are more/less the same, no damaged files

although I was really scared when i was running a java application (javaboy emulator - an in browser emulator for gameboy), and my computer totally crashed. still wondering what happened after that, but it seems to be fine

That happened to me too when I got my computer and had to do all of the Windows updates. It took quite a while for the items to install after I had turned off the computer. I left it until it turned off on it's own because I didnt want to hard power it off.

Many of those .NET Framework updates take a long time to install.
