still testing it for the time being. 32 bit clean install.
-
I wouldn't expect a double fps increase in win7 vs Vista if both are installed in the right way either. Maybe emike's install also includes different drivers compared to the vista or there's something else at play.
I didn't try installing games yet but in 3dmark the scores are more or less the same. In real life performance win7 does boot a bit faster but since is clean install I'm not sure I can compare it to my old vista. Also programs open up much faster, windows WEI score works (5.9 in win7 compared to 5.0 in vista where the memory is not seen by wei as ddr3). -
WEI doesn't work for me, my HDD went from 5.3 to 2.9
-
But do you notice an increased performance in everyday tasks like boot time etc.? I think that's what they were looking to improve.

I don't see much of a difference in boot time or regular usuage. One thing I noticed as others have commented on is IE8 is much faster.
-
-
what hdd do you guys have? And what type of install did you do. I'm pretty sure even a 5400rpm hdd can get more than 4 in WEI so 2.9 is like installing on a pretty slow usb drive?
-
im running raid and it gave me a 2.0 hahahaha
but when i test my drives for performance they get a burst rate of 1900 -
The WEI gave me 2.something with the initial test, but after a rescan it rated my HDD at 5.3.
-
mine still says 2.0
-
slightly better 3dmark06 result (read signature)
WEI 5.9 (memory&hdd with 5.9 mark) -
here is mine

and wei has the ati 3870's @ 6.2 while a 9800m gtx is @ 6.0 -
I`m wondering, if there no difference between your qx9650 and my q9550.
-
i have both chips and the difference is very minimal.
but
on the flip side, put the qx9650 in a desktop and you can hit 4.5 to 5.ghz -
As posted in another thread, sharing info on benchmarks is against the Windows 7 EULA.
-
I've just installed GoW, and there are multiple issues. The intro logos and all that jive have no sound, and after about 15 seconds on the main menu it freezes, crashes, then goes to my desktop. I may install a few other games, but not for a while. It's kind of a deterrence to install something and find out it doesn't work, lol. Maybe someone shoud make a list of 7even compatible games, collecting info from multiple 7even users. -
I'm using a Seagate Momentus 7200.2 200GB drive, but ordered a WD Scorpio Black 320GB today
My HDTune bench seems ok, so I don't know what win7's problem is...

Any 3DMARK06 scores posted yet?
I was going to download it, but did not want to wait 10 hours for it
When is the official release of W7? -
3dmark scores are still better with vista 64 at the moment
-
I have the same score with the 2.9 for data transfer. Under Vista I have 5.9. MAybe because of the missing Intel Matrix Storage Manager?
-
Can anyone actually confirm improved gaming performance and battery life?
Because until I see results I DON'T believe it. -
How about you try it yourself?
-
-
I see a slight improvement in Dx9.0c based games...Havn't checked it out in Dx10 based games yet though.
I will say that there IS less memory being used at idle and load under 7x64 than under Vista x64. Which IS an improvement. I have not, however, put it through a ringer with the battery life department to see if they improved the battery life.
I WILL SAY, however, that they finally relocated where you can change the "Shut down" button power button function from the Power properties submenus to a right click on the taskbar. Seems like someone at Microsoft had a stroke of genius in the "Keep it simple stupid" department. -
With the price of ram these days, NO ONE should complain about memory usage. Maybe you should look at what vista is putting in your ram sometime. Likely you'll find your most used programs.
-
I saw at least 400-800 MB less used. I have 4GB of Memory in this machine right now, why would I complain?
Now, back to topic at hand: I have noticed that while on battery, the battery meter only shows percentage left, nothing as far as time left...which is a little annoying. -
-
-
My M570RU doesn't show a time left either, but a gadget called istat battedy mod2 does (they implemented their own calculator for computers that don;t do it themselves)
-
-
I was looking yesterday for it... I have have to look better...
-
No matter...its not a dealbreaker. If its a hardware capability and not a software capability, then its not a knock on Win 7. I'm, taking my laptop on a trip today, so I'll see how long it takes to drain this thing. Hopefully I can get at least 2-3 episodes of Always Sunny in Philadelphia before this thing craps out on me -
Hopefully this link will work:
Matrix Storage Manager 8.7 x64 -
Has anyone here installed CS3 and Lightroom?
-
On the battery front, I an hour and a half of battery life while watching a DVD with power saver turned on, and still had approximately 26-29% of battery life (probably about 30-35 minutes-ish) left when I finished watching my disc of Always Sunny Episodes. No issues with WMP7 Playback for DVD either. Power and screen settings were even correctly set by WMP while the DVD was playing and didnt screw up the entire time, which was a shocker, as I was expecting to have to do the mouse jiggle. -
Thanks Roach.

I'm just formatting my new 320GB WD Scorpio black...We'll see if that makes a difference once I get it cloned...
-
I've seen people on various sites saying their HDD score is 2.9; Coincidence, or bug?
-
I'm ot sure why but on mine the WEI in windows 7 is 5.9 while on vista is 5.0 (due to the memory) but the hdd score is 5.9
PS also as you can see vista rtes my processor at 5.4 and win7 rates it at 6.1Attached Files:

2.9 for primary disk is really bugging me. I had 2.9 on my Thinkpad T41, which uses a 40GB HDD, fine. But my office PC that has 2x250GB 7200 rpm drive with 32mb cache each in Raid 0, too gets 2.9 in WEI, while getting 5.9 in Vista...
-
I'm thinkin bug...I have that same 320GB 7200 RPM Drive and I ran the WEI, and never got 2.9 ever.
-
Just installed my new WD Scorpio Black 320GB 7200rpm, and no more 2.9
-
Can anyone with an M860TU/NP8660 confirm their battery life with vista and then Win 7?
-
Under Vista I have 5.9 and my raid 0 is pretty fast. -
I installed Windows 7 on another drive and am now done with it. I want to get rid of the multiboot screen Windows boot manager that lets you choose in my case 32bit XP or windows 7.
Can someone tell me how to put the boot file back to windows xp and get rid of the windows 7? Like I said the windows 7 was on another drive and now the drive is gone but the boot maneger keeps popping up.
TIA -
Never mind I found Easy BCDedit and that worked great!!
-
Seems like everyone is praising windows 7 battery life for the m860tu but don't dare to actually say how much they get.
