Hello everyone, I am very close to pulling the trigger on a Clevo P170EM/Sager NP9170 from either MALIBAL or LPC-Digital. I have been trying to decide on how much RAM to purchase (8GB or 16GB at 1333MHz). I also remembered that Windows 7 has a technology called "Ready Boost" which allows you to turn a regular SD card put in a card reader slot, into RAM by creating a Cache of user specifiable size. Although this is a less ideal choice than dedicated internal RAM I was considering using it if I ever needed a quick and easy increase to my Laptop. So I was wondering If anybody has had experience with Ready Boost or any advice on RAM in general.
Thanks for your time.

ReadyBoost requires a 256MB or larger flash drive or other storage device. It essentially works as a caching drive. I really don't think it would be worth it to use this method.
What do you plan on doing with your laptop? For most applications, 8GB should be plenty, even for gaming.
If you have plans on using something like Adobe Photoshop or other larger programs, then you may want to consider upgrading to 16GB of memory. -
i've tried the readyboost with Kingston 16gb high-speed key, no changes. dont expect to boot as fast as ssd bro

Ready boost is only useful if you have 1GB or less memory.

Like the other's stated, you aren't going to get any noticeable gain from ReadyBoost with 8gb. I have 8gb in my NP8170 and even while gaming with multiple browser tabs open, I rarely hit the 50% RAM usage mark.

Thanks everyone. Obviously Ready Boost doesn't replace the benefit a RAM upgrade will give.
I will be gaming most of the time, I intend to occasionally screen capture my games as well as talking with someone in Skype. Would 8GB be enough for simultaneous gaming and screen capture? This is the one thing I am still debating before ordering. -
Yes 8 GIG ram is more than enough for Skype, screen capture, and a game. I have never seen more than 4 GIG ram in use in 2 years. At the time I had 3 IE 9 windows open (about 12 tabs), was playing Mafia II, Outlook was open and a few other apps minimized.

screen capturing isnt going to consume much ram at all, and when it does, it's a brief moment before it is wrote to the drive and cleared from memory.
