I just installed Windows 7 RTM and installed the latest Vista x64 drivers for the Intel 5300 Wifi Card. I used the Vista x64 drivers since Intel still didn't release any Win7 native drivers for their Wifi cards.

Everything went well, I could connect and surf the Internet without any probs. The only prob is when I was transferring files FROM my laptop to any computer in my network, the connection drops after a few minutes. My security is set to WPA2-PSK AES and I'm pretty sure that it is the culprit since I tried WPA2-PSK TKIP and other security schemes below that the transfer was successful.

It's not also because of dd-wrt because I tried the same setup with my Belkin N1 router which has stock firmware, the connection drops when WPA2-PSK AES is used.

So, is the problem because of the drivers I'm using? Anybody has the same problem?

EDIT: Even with the native Win7 drivers, the problem is still existing. :(

Thank you, that is very much appreciated. Just transfer any big (1GB or more) file over the network that is originating from the laptop that has the Intel 5300 card.

Vice versa (from any computer to the network to the laptop) always works fine.

Mine also has no problems with WPA2-PSK TKIP but as you may have known you need to set it to AES to "utilize" more than 54 Mbps bandwidth which is the speed of draft-N. So AES is a must.

Can you try AES for me?

    What router are you using?

    Offtopic

Have you tried any games? Im having doubts about x64 or x86 win7, can you give me some feedback, if for example the videocard driver is x64 but the game is x86 it will have crashes or something like that?

I'm using Linksys WRT300N and Belkin N1 Wireless Router, same results with both as long as I'm on WPA2-PSK AES.

Take not of my problem, I'm not having any problems with games and what not. I'm just having disconnection problems when initiating a file transfer from my laptop with Intel 5300 to any computer on the network.

    Hi Kevin,

    I'm using Windows 7 Build 2100 x64, with the Intel 5300.
My router is the BT Homehub 2.0, and set to WPA2-PSK AES, with Wireless N enabled on both sides.

I tried copying over a 4GB file from my laptop to a friends laptop via the wireless, with no problems at all.

Hi, what drivers are you using? Could it be because I'm on RTM?

I'm using 12.4.3.9 drivers from Intel.

I could well be that you are experiencing problems because of the Build you are using.
Did you have this problem with any other builds?

The only Build I tried is the Windows 7 RTM. I got the untouched build with the legit Hash checks. So I am sure that I'm using the proper build.

I don't know if the problem would be the router. I have a Linksys WRT300N v1 and a Belkin N1 Wireless Router which produces the same results.

EDIT: Ok, here's an update, I noticed that the connection is never dropped when transferring large files with my bluetooth TURNED ON.

This is giving me conclusions that the problem might be somewhat related to the power management of my Intel 5300 which was the problem of MANY users a long time ago, especially with Lenovo laptops with the 5300.

So, am I correct in assuming that it would really be the drivers that is causing this? Or is it both my router's power management?

I am not sure what the exact issue is... but I can move this to Networking section if you want to get more opinions on this topic.

Are you connecting via Window's native wireless interface? ("Wireless Zero"/"WLAN AutoConfig"). If so, have you tried using the connection software provided with the Intel drivers (PROSet/MyWiFi)?

Yes I'm connecting via Windows' native wireless interface.

The new drivers, 12.4.3.9 doesn't have the connection software that was provided before. All they have are diagnostic and statistics softwares.

There are additional driver-specific profile options which may be affecting your connection. You can check them out using pfwizard.exe located in the "bin" folder of your Intel wireless drivers install.

The other way to check these settings is Network Connections -> select your connection -> Properties.

ensure the "Enable Intel connection settings" checkbox is unchecked.

This is really weird, the problem isn't the router since I've bought a new router (Linksys WRT610N) and the same problem persists!

I hate this! Why don't some M860TU owners experience the same problem? It seems that I'm the only one with a M860TU that's experiencing this f'in problem! :(
