    Hi to all! :D

I own a Clevo M765S and I have installed 4GB of RAM. BIOS seems to recognize the whole of the installed memory minus a portion shared with the onboard vga card which I think is normal.

I installed Windows 7 64 bit and here comes the problem:

Although " Windows System Properties" recognizes 4GB of memory , Task Manager has a different opinion: it only reports 3GB or less of total Physical Memory.

I disabled " Maximum RAM" option in msconfig (it was set to something like 2948 MB) and I was welcomed with a black screen on reboot.

Is this a BIOS related problem because I 've read about a memory remapping option which doesn't exist? Can I do something about that?

    Thank you...

Hmm.... that really sounds like 32 bit Windows. Are you positive it's 64 bit?

How much is your shared video taking? I believe that will take away from what the Task Manager shows.

The problem could be a hardware limitation If you have Intel 945PM that could be the problem.

I have a Compal HEL80 that my brother is using running Win 7 Premium X64 with 4 GBs installed and will only recognize 3GBs out of 4Gbs

My laptop has the SiS M672 chipset. The previous link states that it supports a maximum of 4 GB RAM.

Any luck with a newer BIOS perhaps? (BIOS recognizes 3838 MB of RAM).

    Thank you for your help!!!

    P.S.
I have to make a correction to something I previously wrote... When I disable the "Maximum RAM" option in msconfig, the system boots, I get the usual welcome screen of windows 7 and then I get a black-empty screen. The hdd is doing its usual job and I have the feeling that the system is working with no visual output!

Well, it seems to be another driver issue...

I decided to update the VGA (SiS M672) driver of my laptop. During the procedure the installer asked me if I want to uninstall the older driver. I pressed "Yes", the old driver was removed and then the system restarted to continue the installation of the new driver.

When the system was up again, I checked Task Manager and by miracle my computer recognized all the installed RAM (3.9 GB)!!! (ok 4GB minus 128 MB because of the onboard VGA).

I continued the update and after I finished I checked again. Back to the 2.9 GB...

So if I interprete the results correctly, I assume that our friends at SiS have a problem creating proper drivers for our hardware...

    Thank you...
