    Hey Guys,

Getting ready to make the leap to Windows 8 on my P170hm and need some guidance.

I realize that 'most' Windows 8-specific drivers I can get from individual manufacturers website (ie. nVidia, Intel, Upek, etc.). However, what's the best option for the Clevo-specific stuff? (ie. camera, hotkey utility, sound, etc.)?

Should I just install them in 'compatibility' mode? Or, is there any solid recommendation as to what works well (or doesn't). I'm open to all ideas and suggestions and want to get everything I need downloaded and a plan together before I attempt the upgrade since this is my primary PC.

    - Denver

You should be able to find it on the manufacturer's website. If not, make note of the equipment you have and then do a Google search; there are always a number of mirror sites that have drivers that sometimes the system manufacturer won't - or even the device specific manufacturer won't supply (generally this only occurs on older devices though, where the drivers are archived).

You can try backing the drivers up and then reinstalling them on 8, but I don't recommend this. Windows Update may find some for you after you get Windows 8 installed and activated, too.

You can get the Windows 8 drivers for camera, chipset, audio etc straight from Clevo. CLEVO - Download

    Marine0089,

That's my problem... It appears that Clevo hasn't posted anything for the P170HM that's Windows 8 compatible. I was hoping some of the resellers here may have had luck getting drivers out of them for their own customers.

It completely frustrates me that I have to 'scavenge' for device drivers on a notebook that isn't all that old and is still very much current hardware but no longer bleeding-edge.

    hey buddy,

i for one was in a similar situation with my p150hm. what i did was the following:

    - install win8, let it use its update function to install as many devices as possible
    - check device manager if there are still any unknown devices left
    - scour the clevo website for the most current hotkey utility. theres the v3 series, v6 series and v8 series. v3 was for HM laptops, latest 3.3053, whereas v6 was intended for EM machines with win7, latest 6.0069 and the v8 series (i think 8.0072 is the latest? check the updated clevo driver thread for that) was for EM machines with win8. i checked the v3 and v6 series, both worked on my system with win8 installed, although i found that the 6.0069 wouldnt keep the power setting i put it to after the next reboot. it would rather reset to the stock setting. as for v8, i havent checked that one out yet. might be worth trying.
    - THX Trustudio Pro i just used the stock version, works fine
    - everything else i got from Station-Drivers: le site de drivers, bios, firmwares avec un forum d'aide great site for getting the latest drivers for ur HM machine!

last but not least, check this lil pic here to see what kinda stuff i have manually installed on my machine with win8 :)

    cheers

it's really not much of a leap. i'd take the under on having to manually install four drivers. downloading any drivers in preparation is just a waste of your time. the plan is to upgrade.

The best thing to do would be install Windows 8 then worry about the drivers and find them later. That way you're not downloading ones you don't need to and the ones you do need will take the same amount of time to find weather its before or after the 8 upgrade. No need to be frustrated about something that isn't an issue yet.
