Hey Folks,
So today I went to my C:/Windows folder and found that it is 17.4Gigs large!
Is that normal for 64bit vista home premium!!??!
(I delete shadow copies and such dont even have system restore enabled)
Thanks...
How big are your guys Windows folders (With Vista)
-
-
mmm... I dunno, could be fine
On my current Dell laptop (Latitude), running Vista Business 32-bit, the Windows folder is 12.8gb.
64 bit drivers may be taking up some more space, but it doesn't seem out of the ballpark to me. -
Maybe you have system restore or something that you didn't delete. I have 64 bit and my folder is 13.1gigs large.
-
Temp files?
-
-
The_Observer 9262 is the best:)
17GB is definitely not normal IMHO.
-
That's temp files for sure.
Download CCleaner and it'll do a great job of clearing that up for ya. -
temp files, updates, prefetch is in Windows folder
-
EDIT: You know, I was going to post a pic from google images; but ... they do say an image is worth a thousand words, and boy is that ever true - may God have mercy on some of the folks whose images appeared. -
mines 10 gigs flat (ult.x64) prolly Temp...
-
I had it upto 15Gb once. Restore points and stuff, CCleaner took care of it.
-
15.1 GB here, mine is vista ult x64
-
Boy, talk about having that bloated feeling; I don't feel quite so bad now
EDIT: [Pic removed for overbandwidth issues] -
I use tuneup utilties, I always delete my restore points (Dont even have them enabled as a matter of fact) ect. ect. I dont get why its so big??
-
I explored w/ tune up utils, the largest folder in my windows folder is winsxs (9.8gigs) inside that the largest is backup (513mb) and manifests (304mb).... then there are all sorts of other things in there?
after that system32 (3.28gigs) is the biggest folder with the driverstore inside being about 1.36gigs -
by the way I deleted all the temp files... so its def. not that, or system restore points as i said I delete them/dont have them enabled. Also the preftech folder is small under 50mb...... I dont get why my windows folder is so big? It seems the above mentioned winsxs folder is larger than its supposed to be?
-
Heres a pic of the windows folder. In comparison my Programs folder is 9.6 Gigs.
-
I really wouldn't worry about it. If there's a descrepancy, it's not more than 5gb (you might figure out how to trim it down to 12gb total). On your 200gb drive, that's not much to sweat over.
-
You can delete soem of the restore points.
Check my guide, it links to LES' NBR Vista tweaks and tips guide . -
-
I burned a 4 gig game to a DVD... that wouldnt have like attributed to the windows folder getting larger would it? Windows would like copy that to itself too would it?
-
No,windows doesn`t to that. Check the link above and see what corresponds to you
-
Honestly nothing in that applies to me... lol - I dont have a recovery partition, I dont have backup or shadow copies, I did a disc cleanup to get rid of temp files and stuff I use tuneup utilities too to make sure..
I dont get why my Windows folder is so massive lol... I mean i Just installed SP1, but TUneUputilities deleted all the backup data that created so that cant be it either.... -
You might still have the SP1 files , that`s one reason.
Tinderbox(Uk) had a thread about it, though I can`t find it yet.

Actually can a mod move this to the Windows OS Forum??? Might get more traffic there and dont wanna repost...
Also - Vista Home Premium 64bit users please post your Windows folder size and how long you have had your laptop... mines 17.3gigs after 5 months (3 months of use) and SP1 installed via windows update. -
Doesnt match up quite right does itat least my windows folder is a more reasonable size now i guess....
-
My Vista ult. 64 Windows folder amounts to 18.3 GB (Size on Disk).
The SpaceMonger tool may not see everything but clearly shows large temp and a memory dump.

aw man.. i NEED that tool hanko! lol awesome
-
-
So I am back up to 17.1gigs.... from 14.5 or w/e..
whats eating my diskspace! (last time It was the old SP files or w/e which I deleted)
its not temp files. or restore points those are deleted! -
its hidden system files.... usually all of the Windows and Microsoft update backups.
Why is this so important to you?.... Are you hurting for space now? -
No but its pissing me off..
all my WIndows and Micrsoft Update backups are deleted.... I use TuneUp Utilities 2008 and it takes care of em. -
I actually have less than 1GB in my Vista folder... I used vLite and made a custom non-bloated Vista disc.
-
ummm... explain that please
and this is for 64bit
-
yeah, you can use vLite to unbloat Vista and burn the custom disc.... you can even fit Vista "lite" into a bootable pen drive.
