    Hey Folks,
So today I went to my C:/Windows folder and found that it is 17.4Gigs large!

Is that normal for 64bit vista home premium!!??!

(I delete shadow copies and such dont even have system restore enabled)

    Thanks...

How big are your guys Windows folders (With Vista)

mmm... I dunno, could be fine

On my current Dell laptop (Latitude), running Vista Business 32-bit, the Windows folder is 12.8gb.

64 bit drivers may be taking up some more space, but it doesn't seem out of the ballpark to me.

That could be. Or temp files. Have you tried doing a cleanup under the drive properties, Garandhero?

    That's temp files for sure.

Download CCleaner and it'll do a great job of clearing that up for ya.

Yikes! You've got a deadly cancerous tumor growing there; quick, before it metastasizes .... oops, that's _Vista, isn't it? :D :D

EDIT: You know, I was going to post a pic from google images; but ... they do say an image is worth a thousand words, and boy is that ever true - may God have mercy on some of the folks whose images appeared.

I explored w/ tune up utils, the largest folder in my windows folder is winsxs (9.8gigs) inside that the largest is backup (513mb) and manifests (304mb).... then there are all sorts of other things in there?

after that system32 (3.28gigs) is the biggest folder with the driverstore inside being about 1.36gigs

by the way I deleted all the temp files... so its def. not that, or system restore points as i said I delete them/dont have them enabled. Also the preftech folder is small under 50mb...... I dont get why my windows folder is so big? It seems the above mentioned winsxs folder is larger than its supposed to be?

I really wouldn't worry about it. If there's a descrepancy, it's not more than 5gb (you might figure out how to trim it down to 12gb total). On your 200gb drive, that's not much to sweat over.

I burned a 4 gig game to a DVD... that wouldnt have like attributed to the windows folder getting larger would it? Windows would like copy that to itself too would it?

Honestly nothing in that applies to me... lol - I dont have a recovery partition, I dont have backup or shadow copies, I did a disc cleanup to get rid of temp files and stuff I use tuneup utilities too to make sure..

I dont get why my Windows folder is so massive lol... I mean i Just installed SP1, but TUneUputilities deleted all the backup data that created so that cant be it either....

Anyway I did this, my Windows folder went from 17.3 to 14.8 (2.5GB) but my total space *used* only went from 29.9 to 28.3 (1.6)

Doesnt match up quite right does it ;) at least my windows folder is a more reasonable size now i guess....

My Vista ult. 64 Windows folder amounts to 18.3 GB (Size on Disk).
The SpaceMonger tool may not see everything but clearly shows large temp and a memory dump.

its hidden system files.... usually all of the Windows and Microsoft update backups.

Why is this so important to you?.... Are you hurting for space now?
