    Hey Guyz !

We have a very good topic here,
    can anyone help me ?
    i have Windows XP SP3 v.3205 and a Q6600 2.4GHz Quad.

with my OS (XP SP3 v.3205), can i run games with full CPU (Quadcore) Power for Battlefield 2 ?

i can see 4 processors in the device manager, but i dont know if all 4 cores are being utilized when i play battlefield 2 !

    anyone can help ?
do i still need the hotfix patch ?

SP3 has the hotfix built in, so I think you're good.

you have SP3, its built in, and to answer your question, no all 4 cores are not being used, because BF2 does not have Quad-Core support, noting you can do to fix that

I have SP3 but I don't see the registry entries from the first post. Do they still need to be added or does SP3 apply the multi-core fix in a different way?

Gophn, I have XP 32 bit installed on my M860TU with Service Pack 3, what is the easiest way to confirm this multicore thread fix is running properley on my machine ? Is it under device manager or can I look at the registry entry ?

    Appreciate any thoughts on this.

If you are running SP3, you should be fine.

Do a wPrime 1.55 benchmark and you can compare it to a CPU like yours to see if the yours are similar.

    Hi Gophn.

I have one "heavy" doubt. Is AMD Dual Core Optimizer needed under SP3?. At first I tought the answer was SO simple: "NO ".

But then, after doing some research, I find out it was not that simple. For example, AMD has just released a new version of it´s DCO (v1.1.4). What for if XP3 it´s nowadays "standard" when it comes to XP? . And morefost, take a look at it´s changelog:

Yes yes, it says Vista . Am I so crazy or Vista used to have "native" dual/multi core support???

And now look at this Official AMD support => http://forums.amd.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=22&threadid=97081

I am really confused right now, don´t know what to think, that´s why I´m answering the "Expert" ;)

    As always, Kind Regards :)

So hello all and nice to meet you. I do have the same old negastive delta time problem. I 've tried everything, i men everything i could do to solve it but nothing happened at all. So here is a pic of it. Must say that this is for my Lineage II interlude client

Now. What i have done till now is

    updated video card
    updated chipset
    updated motherboard
    updated direct x
    installed dual core optimizer
installed dual core driver for windows
    unistalled and reinstalled game
    ran check files 3 times
    increased my virtual memory
    check ram (replaced both sticks)

After all these, nothing happened, problem still there. Another solution was to set compatibility mode for windows 98/me but it still crashes whith the same critical error.

A different solution also was to set it run from 1 cpu from the task manager and set affinity but i got a blue screen and my pc had a reboot (lol).

So i tried to make it from a 3rd party utility.

Here, i just put my l2.exe in the engine

and here i set my cpus to run only 1. (before you ask it's windowsd xp greek edition).

When i run it from this launcher i have the same blue screen and the same pc reboot.

Also, i ve followed you guide about registry and /usepmtimer in the boot.ini and again nothing happened.

So, really tell me what else i have to do. Cause i am sick and tired of it really :(

Do I need to use the /usepmtimer switch on the boot.ini file? I am getting ready to reinstall XP and I have SP3 integrated on the cd.

no need to do anything if you are going to have XP SP3.

I really need to retire this thread. :)

@ Gophn: lol surely. I think that a sticker should do the trick, or just edit the name like [don't need for XP SP3]

OK, here's what could be a final question for you on this subject Gophn. I executed your fix at least 18 months ago and I've been a happy camper with it since. I have, for possibly reasons unknown, been avoiding SP3 up to this point. Maybe I don't think I need it or maybe I'm just leary of major MS "fixes"...either way, if I do decide to install SP3, will there be any detrimental effects since I've already got this hotfix installed?

    Thanks

there should not be any issues upgrading to SP3 with the hotfix installed.

I have tested that out already, no problems at all.

It should be showing multiple graphs. One for each core or processor. This was the case even with SP2 where you needed the patch.

i don't know but i think it may just be me :t but after applying Sp3 the core load isn't in sync with each other there is always a dominate core
    like core 1 10-30% usage
    core 2 50-100% usage

I was wondering if it's important that the /usepmtimer is the last in line? since I have added my ram tweak /pae after it. thanks

dont worry about it... thats normal when most of the small apps that you use is only single-threaded.

if you run a multi-threaded program or benchmark (like wPrime 2.00), then you will see that all of your cores will run at top speed evenly.

do not worry about this... only a few AMD CPU still require it (which is automated when you install the AMD drivers), not Intel.

Sorry this maybe a very stupid question, but does this need to be done on a Vista Home Basic Machine? I upgraded from a Celeron M 520 to a T5600. How do I verify both cores are working properly?

    Thanks for the info

    nope.

This topic is only pertained to Windows XP Service Pack 2.

.... which is not needed anymore, since Service Pack 3 fixed it.

I have the same problem... Our IT dept controls the images that go on our computers, but they have no clue on what they are doing... my laptop also shows only one core and it has SP3 already installed, I think it was a mistake in the image used on my laptop... is there any other way to reactive multiple core support... I have a Dell Latitude D620 with a Core Duo T2400 processor...

PS:there is no special reason why I should only have one core active, because when I got my computer it was working perfect, it happened when I sent it for maintenance...
