Just got a new machine, and I'm having random lag spikes. I tested out the internet, with a secondary laptop, and it doesn't have any issues so I figure its only on the new machine. I went with the standard wireless card, so I'm wondering if the issue is with a faulty card or could it be a driver issue?
When I installed the wireless drivers off of the driver website, it didn't fully install but the wireless was up so I figured there wasn't a problem. I also uninstalled both Realtek drivers, Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller and Realtek RTL8723AE Wireless Lan 802.11n PCI-E NIC, and did a restart but the problem is still there.
Any help would be appreciated.

You can try downloading the drivers directly from Sager Software Upgrade
Get the Integrated Realtek Wireless 802.11 B/G/N + Bluetooth Combo Driver for Windows and the appropriate Windows version.
Then uninstall the wireless drivers you have now, reboot, then install the newly downloaded ones. -
Yeah, I'm getting the same problem. The install hangs on "Now installing Cisco EAP-FAST" and doesn't continue. Unless I need to wait a really long time to install, it doesn't finish. However the wireless driver itself was installed before it went to the cisco install portion.
So as another update, the family controller is no more, I manually installed the EAP's and now I'm going to see if it continues to lag. Seems like its still laggy. -

We don't get many calls on the stock cards (usually Realtek) in regards to them being faulty, but it does happen from time to time. WiFi cards are simple to swap out, at least, if need be (it's still best to go through your supplier for this so you don't risk your warranty).

I see, well then I'll just stick it out and see if it stabilizes or something. Thanks for the help.

Last resort would be to reinstall your OS, then the chipset driver, and then the remaining drivers and test it out (before your Windows updates). That will give you a better idea as to whether it's a faulty NIC or just a bad driver.
The EAP-FAST is an authentication protocol for wireless networks. If that can't be installed, it could point to either damaged data or a failing card. Hopefully you're able to sort it out soon. -
Well just to be clear, it is possible for the drivers to cause intermittent lag spikes? I've never had a problem like this before so I'm not sure of the cause. Long downloads are fine, but stuff that requires immediate back and forth like games and streaming tend to lag.

Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
Are you far away from your router? Did your old laptop have a similar issue?
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
That sounds more like driver or setting issues than distance if large files are ok, have you tried changing which band it operates at?
-
Same distance, and my old laptop did have this issue. In fact my netbook is running alongside with no problem.
How would I go about changing bands? -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
It's usually in the router options. Every router is different as to how to access the controls.
-
Well I'll change it up to see if it does anything. Last resort will be a reformat. I'm glad I got 2 hard drives.
-

You could try but go with the router first as it could be interference that is increasing lag.

My dual band router shows up as two different options for my computer to connect to. Theres a 5.0 and 2.4 that I can select from.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Yes there should be a band and channel option. I meant channel rather than band.
eg channel 26. -
Well I wasn't able to find the options for the bands, guess I'll just reformat.
Is there any particular ordering I need to use for the drivers? Chipset first, then any order for the rest? -

Chipeset then Intel HD driver then the rest
-
Well, just did the reformat, problem still persists. I think ill try to restart the router one more time after the reformat to see.
edit: Seems like the router restart did it. Now I'm too afraid to update windows haha.
Thank you all for helping!
edit2: Not wanting to make too many posts, I just want to clarify what I can put into my machine. I have a dvd player installed, just for reference.
It says two 2.5 hdd slots + two ssd slots. This means I can put in two 2.5 hard drives as well as two solid state drives in addition to the dvd player? How hard is this to do the manual is pretty skimpy?
In addition, there are 4 ram slots. Mine came with 2 8 gig ram cards put into SODIMMS slots, which are the hard to get to under the keyboard slots, I believe. This means I have 2 more easily accessible slots under the machine. Are these hard to install?
Guess I'll just post this last bit in the owners lounge instead.
