Hello, everyone! I received my Sager NP5793 about two weeks ago, and, since then, I've been a little concerned about the temperature of my 8800M GTX. It idles around 40C, goes to 45-49 under normal OS usage (web browsing, word processing, watching movies), but under extended game usage with fans on high, it can spike up as high as 89C, which seems a mite toasty for my tastes. Testing with FurMark for an hour shows an asymptote at the 90c mark, but I was too nervous to leave it running any longer, so it might go higher for all I know.

Is this normal behavior, and, if not, are there any steps which I can take? For the record, I'm using the notebook on a hard wooden table and monitoring temps with RivaTuner 2.09 on Vista x64, if that's pertinent to my situation. Additionally, the CPU temps are very cool, and they never go above 55C (even after 2 hours under Orthos). The ambient temperature is around 28C.

It`s the highest I`ve heard for the 8800M GTX in the 5793.
Now , it`s not actually a cause for concern , the m15x users have it running even hotter .
Although the temps are pretty high, somehow, maybe they`re not accurate.
Try HWMonitor and see how much that one gets, since it has a min/max option built in.
If this keeps up, you might have to contact Sager or your reseller, since the temps are much higher than everyone else`s.

Thats seems pretty high on load, good idle though. Highest mine reaches is 60c in vista with stock drivers.

BTW I never have to use the Fn+1.

Mine is 48C with web browsing etc, on WinXP (no notebook cooler, no elevating the back fans). On Crysis without max fan mode, my GPU gets to the low 60's. From what I've read, 90 is the absolute max for the card without damage.

Wow, the Zalman really comes through for your system. I must get that one, even if I don`t really need it :D

Thank you very much for the advice, everyone! I'll try some different monitoring software and probably refrain from heavy gaming until I get a chance to contact XoticPC.

Yes it helped out alot compared to what I was getting before :) I was mainly concerned with my hd temp it was always above 52c in xp, the cooler droped it to like 48-49. But now it goes even lower now that I switched to vista ultimate.

My GPU temp is 45 C at start-up, and it idles at between 50-60 C. Could something be wrong with my GPU? I'm on XP, with fn+3.

    No, some systems behave differently.
Even similar specced laptops had different temps than me.
60C is still ok, as long as you don`t go over 75C you should be fine.
Some even go upto 85C , but they clean the laptop, use a notebook cooler, force Fn+1 and keep it raised a tad.

Its because your using Fn+3, try normal fans it will lower your temps.

Is this the Zalman cooler you are talking about? I'm always concerned about powering such devices from the notebook's USB port. Is that not a concern here?

Good to know. A friend of mine had a laptop cooler burn out one of his USB ports, so I'm kinda paranoid about it.

I think you can get them with a separate power cord also.

3dmark,ran at 1280x1024 is hardly GPU stressing.
Crysis, and pretty much any newer game at high resolutions, now that will give you a gpu max temp.

As an update, I called Sager support, and they said they would look into. I'm still waiting for the phonecall at the moment, but I think I may have resolved the problem for the time: I uninstalled the 175.70 from LV2G and installed the official Clevo 174.90 drivers, and, since then, my temps haven't gone above 76C. I'll do some more testing tonight, but, as of now, things are looking up.

There you go ... some drivers are bad ideas, running hotter than others.
Oficial Clevo ones? I might want to try those myself...
