So I ordered my sager 2090 june 30th, order was processed july 3rd, and either way its shipping this week, haven't checked my e-mail yet for the tracking number.

Anyways, in an effort to suppress my excitement about receiving the laptop soon, I have been lurking around the forums. I have seen a bunch of threads talking about how you can't keep your laptop lid closed while playing it. This concerns me, because this laptop is a desktop replacement for me and I will be connecting my monitor to it as well as a keyboard and mouse, so there will be no need for the laptop to be open.

Besides buying a cooling pad, which I may do anyways, is there anyway to prevent this overheating while the laptop is closed? When I am gaming, I game for 3 or 4 hours at a time, so this cooling issue is a major concern for me. Also as a side note, I in college I was planning on leaving the laptop on overnight.

Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

Welcome to the NBR forums. :)

NEVER leave on any electronic device on when not using it, it will age faster and wear it out... (from heat)

If you are not going to use it, turn it off.... just that simple.

Example: Would you leave your car running over night if you are not going to use it? It would just waste energy and create wear and tear from heat.

    Simple Electronics and Physics:
Heat + Electronics = inefficiency, shorter longevity, and/or damage.

Ok, well that answers my question about leaving it on overnight...I guess I'll just man up and wait the 30 seconds or so it takes for windows to boot ;)

Anyways, none of the posts answer my question about gaming for long periods of time while on an external monitor :(

if the notebook is adequately cooled (with a notebook cooler) and you are monitoring the temps.... then gaming for long durations of time will be fine.

Read the Sager 2090/IF-90 sticky... the last part. ;)

Better to wait 30 secs for it to boot then to see it not boot at all.

Should be fine in a cool room or with a good notebook cooler for extra insurance.
