Worth jumping onto the NP8651 ship? Or should I sail on Skylake?

So my current laptop is getting a little long in the tooth and I was thinking about purchasing a new one, but with all the talk about Skylake and wireless charging, etc. along with the gradual switch to USB-C, I was wondering if it would be a good idea to wait for the next round of Clevos that would (hopefully) have newer processors and support the new USB standard. I hear Skylake should be released in the second half of the year, and it's not like my laptop is totally unusable right now, but then again there is always the potential for delays and other shenanigans that might mean a much longer wait than anticipated. I'd appreciate any feedback that would help me to make a more informed decision.

What are you running currently? If it's still something somewhat reasonable you could try tweaking it to tide you over if you think USB 3.1 is something you could make good use of.

Current laptop is a 2012 HP Envy 15. It's not really a spec issue right now, as I'm not the guy who HAS to play the latest games immediately, and I'm okay with leaving it on for a while longer when I need to render videos and such. My main issue is actually that the screen edge is starting to come apart. (Yeah HP has garbage QC but it was cheap and lasted quite a while.)

Rather I was mostly thinking about waiting for updated port connectors (i.e. USB-C port ends vs the standard square USBs we're used to) and wireless charging/connections through WiGig, which seems like it would be massively useful if it actually works. Just thinking about futureproofing mostly.

Well you wont get wireless charging on larger machines just yet as the power they need to charge their batteries is much greater and would need a very large loop.

There are always nice things on the horizon, usb3 will work for most uses for some time to come as it will take some time for 3.1 style connectors to take hold.
