Hello there and I would like to ask for your help with my Sager NP8690.

First of all thanks for taking the time to read this. And second, I apologize for the length of this post and if this would sound more like me ranting too much because of the frustration with my laptop.

    History/Background:
    - I got my Sager NP8690 around 2 years ago from XoticPC.
    - I live overseas and this is currently the only PC I got for my home/work. So it's quite difficult to send it to XoticPC for repair due to shipping issues and work obligations.
    - The battery of this laptop is already busted and I have to source a new one.

    Problems:
    - Around 2 months when I got this brand new NP8690 following problems encountered and still encountering up to present:
1.) Suddenly restarts on its own.
2.) Sometimes there is a BSOD saying something like BUG_CODE_USB_DRIVER
3.) Sometimes while using the laptop, all USB ports will suddenly stop working. When this happens, the laptop can not reset/shut down properly. It will get stuck on the loading page of "Shutting down..." screen. So I have to manually press and hold the power button for it to shut down.

    - After almost 2 years, new problems have been encountered:
4.) A loud beeping sound occurs non-stop when booting up, and after 2 mins or so it will automatically shut down. I identified this to the CPU fan which has stopped working. Temporary solution for me is cleaning the fan and tapping the part near the CPU fan when the loud beeping sound occurs. I also need to source a new CPU fan.
5.) The latest problem just a few hours ago is BSOD that says 0x000000F4. It will always display this BSOD when Windows 7 is run normally.

As of this post I am running Windows 7 on safe mode with network properties. The BSOD is not showing so I think it may be a problem with the drivers.
But I have to find a solution soon because on this mode I can not open Windows Live Mail, access my printer and can not even open an Excel file for my work.

I read somewhere that taking out the CMOS battery and putting it back in may solve the BSOD and driver issues.
Would really appreciate if someone can post how to remove the whole bottom cover and the location of the CMOS battery.

Another option is to back up my files and format the whole system back to a clean slate.
My question is, would formatting also clear all of my drivers and somewhat solve my problem?

Again, appreciate any helpful feedback and thanks just for the sake of reading this post.

PS. Gaming wise, I had no issues with the NP8690 (w/ GTX460M). If only it could last more than an hour while on battery.

Sorry to hear about the problems with the computer.
You can download a .pdf on how to take the computer apart here Free Cloud Storage - MediaFire get the W8XXCU_ESM.zip on 1-10 you'll see the CMOS battery right by the #3 on 2-18 you'll see how to remove the keyboard. From what you described though i dont think its the CMOS battery. Most likely its a driver or software program like you mentioned. If you have system restore enabled try to go back to a previous date and see if that helps.

You can also reformat as you mentioned. If you do that make sure to back up any data you dont want to lose. You do wipe all drivers when you do this and will have to reinstall them so make sure the drivers disc is around or download them ahead of time. A reformat may solve all your issues except for the CPU fan issues. That should be solved with a new one. Or you can make sure that its clear of any dust and make sure the vents are too so it can blow out the hot air efficiently, or reapply the thermal compound.

Problem #1 and #4 should be the same issue. CPU Fan is not working. You need to replace a new cpu fan.

Problem #2 is hard drive "almost going to fail" warning.

Problem #3 is for hard drive or Windows 7 issue. You shall change new hard drive and re-install Windows 7.

Problem #5 is the memeory "going to fail" warning.

I think you shall send the unit to Sager for repair as soon as possible. Your cpu fan is down and it is causing a lot of more problems now. Hard drive and memory failure can be caused by the internal tempature is too high.

Thanks for the replies and apologies to the delay of this post as work got busy.

I have already managed to contact XoticPC support group and got my RMA number.

Currently backing up my files and finding a temporary laptop so I can arrange shipment.

have you cleaned you laptop from inside? . Because I had similar issue with my Toshiba laptop being freeze or restart when I plug usb or card reader. I suggest you do cleaning to your laptop because sometimes dust causes electricity short to some sensitive exposed parts of motherboard circuit . I would also suggest to install linux and then plug your usb devices and test to see if stll freezing. If this happened , then its definitely hardware issue.
