Has anyone gotten around to testing a pair of 780Ms in the X7200? I've been out of the loop for a while due to a deployment, which I'm currently on. Is there any reason they may not work, given that the 680Ms were working with a hack? Think the same hack would be possible to enable a 780M SLI beast? Though to be honest I haven't had the 485Ms slow me down.

Right now, no one seems to know.
DarkAnsem asked the same question, but til now, it was never tried.

But I think I remember that people said the GTX 780m would not work in P170HM/150HM like the GTX 67XmX cards, so there is a possibility that then they won´t work in the X7200, too, because as far as I remember the 670mx doesn´t work in X7200 like in the P170HM. :(

For now I don´t feel I have to upgrade, because my GTX 680m´s in SLI are performing so good I can throw nearly everything at them, so there is no need to upgrade (though I tend to always get the newest and best ;) ). I think with the next gen of graphic cards next year, I will buy my a new laptop - because it´s very likely that the next gen again won´t work in X7200.

BUT MAYBE Prema oder Meaker or someone else can tell something new about this? :D

Thanks man, yea not sure if I want to sell the X7200 and get the successor when I get home next year, or keep the X7200 and get a desktop. :p The 485M SLI is working great for me still. But if I could upgrade, the 980X is still a beast so the 780M SLI would be a nice addition without getting a full new notebook. Guess I'll stay tuned :D

If it was possible, it would likely be necessary to have dual PSUs. Johnkss has shown these cards can pulled in excess of 146w when OC'ed, and are pushing the limits of included PSUs even at stock (likely why MSI had to implement their NOS battery draw feature). My P375SM is pulling very close or just over 330w with a moderate OC... and that's with a 4700mq, not a 980x which draws quite a bit more power. Even my x7200 with 485m SLI and a 960 would trip the PSU with a moderately-high OC after gaming for a while...

But you're right: 780m SLI with a 980x (and adequate power and cooling) would be a force.

Yea, I have the dual PSUs and adaptor, but it would be a heck of a lot of fun to have dual 780Ms

I have some good news for you guys, it would work.. the GTX 780 = full shaders of the 680m and better clock, that all, it still a GK104, the 670mx has nothing to do with this series, the 670mx is a GK106, the 670mx was build differently than the 680m or 780m, the 780m and 680m is exactly the same card, just that the 780m is a fully unlock 680m, close to the 680 desktop.

    670MX + 675MX + 680M = crippled GK104 cores.

The only card to use the GK106 is the 770M down to the 760M, you can tell as it has its own PCB without the space for 2 extra memory chips.

The GTX780M does not work in the EM series of notebooks so there is a difference in bios there.

    You wrong
    670 + 675 + 770 = gk106
    680 and 780 = gk 104

no bios difference, the 780m = 680m with all the unlocked shaders...

I will show you the proof soon on a video..

same gpu, same revision, bios update for different clocking and unlock shaders
    780m = 680m

GK106 is a 192bit max mem interface and the 675MX is 256bit LOL.

    GK104 see.

I used to run the 3d spec and ranking page on this forum, if I state a spec you probably want to triple check before saying i'm wrong ;) It's a rare thing.

Probably though people will be testing.
