Got, never had a cpu issue prior. Wish I had another chip to test it. Takes a while to shop out here. :/

Thanks for the link. I'll test when I get off work.

EDIT: I also ran a memory test, didn't seem to come up with any issues.

If you can get an unlocked one on there you could try underclocking your cpu, try 1 memory stick. Otherwise you get short of options.

Well I took my caddy with my OS SSD and my gaming SSD and flipped the disks. That seemed to work once. Got into windows. Then it gave me another BSOD. Same behavior as before.

Then I turned off hyper threading in the Bios and now my system will boot and run.

It was late and I was exhausted so I'm not sure if the SSD swap helped or not.

But now I know that if I have hyper threading on, it will BSOD while windows is loading.

    Any ideas as to why?

Defective CPU... it did run that way a couple of days when my CPU was defective, then it didn´t boot without hyper threading, too...

Hmm, I'll gimp it along as far as I can. Don't want to drop another $600 on another 980x.

I'm going to try and reflash the bios.

Certainly worth getting the latest bios, the 980X was released later in the cycle so it was maybe not quite supported on your bios version.

Ahh yea Prema gave me the latest official Bios. He lost the unlocked ones so he's working on that. Hopefully the new bios helps resolve my random BSODs in Windows as well. Now I just need to refresh myself on how to flash a bios via dos. Been a long time :p lol

Hey, glad you got it working again! Just FYI, in most of todays games hyperthreading doesn't help, it actually scales negatively and produces microstuttering in games like BF3 for me. I run mine with HT off all the time. Maybe in the upcoming games HT will make a difference, as they are most likely better optimized on CPU part because of the next gen consoles.

It's quite a bit better on ivy and haswell for that sort of thing. Usually it's just typing in the batch file name :p

Not bad, I've been using it but can't get hyper threading working. It won't boot and BSOD when I boot with hyper threading enabled. I have an i7 920 to test but haven't had the time. I may also need to reinstall Windows because I get a lot of freezing when I play diablo 3 and BSOD as well. So it's not the most reliable. Hopefully if we get a few slow days at work I'll test the 920, and reinstall Windows. Hopefully that'll clear up my issues. If the 920 works, then I know my 980x needs replacing. That won't be cheap but I definitely want a reliable system.
