I have installed MSI Afterburner and started playing Prototype 2. From what I see in other threads with 7970M having underutilization issues by not always having "GPU Usage" at 99-100%. So I alt-tabbed from Prototype 2 and I see my usage jumping from ~40% to ~ 60% all the time and nothing higher. Ingame with everything at max and no vsync i average at around 60 frames. Please don`t tell me I have a bad 680M :|

EDIT : Went back in to get a new set of activity from card to post and now usage it up higher :| see attachement

Lol its just a new, unoptimized game. Wait for the next patch and next nvidia driver, then it should be fine.
Check the usage on another game.

Try without vsync on and check your utilization. The figures look normal if it's a steady 60fps. The card just isn't finding Prototype 2 very challenging so it doesn't have to work flat out to get 60fps.

This is true ;) Still you can try if forcing "Prefer Maximum Performance" on Power management mode helps (check attachment). This solved me some issues I was having in Need for speed: Hot Pursuit.

Meaker is right, its the game, or should we say crappy PC port

People get everything from 30% GPU usage up to 45%.

Prototype 2 Low GPU Usage - Steam Users' Forums

Plus Prototype 2 is mostly CPU dependant so the GPU don`t have to run at full speed, hence the downclocking/throttling. But even the CPUs seem to downclock due to extremely poor coded game

This is it. You have VSYNC on. It is not a crappy un-optimized game. Your system is performing AS IT SHOULD WITH VSYNC ON!

You need something like The witcher 2 to make it run at 99% GPU utilization :D.

I would understand if this was with vsync on. But as i highlighted, I have vsync turned off as I wanted to see how high the FPS could go and they didnt go anywhere.

Prototype 2 is very badly optimized. See their forums, people are experiencing all kind of retarded problems
