I post here because there is no Schenker retailer section.

it is a laptop that apparently can have 2 GPUs (sli capable).
I would like to add another GPU, the 680M, to the config, in order to be able to use the 580M as a physx only.

I have no idea how to, however, and if it possible.

    can someone help me?

user @Tirenz has apparenlty done something similar...

    Hello, Dark_Ansem, welcome to NBR.

Your laptop is indeed dual GPU capable since it's basically a rebranded Clevo X7200, but i strongly advise you to go with a SLi configuration, either by buying another 580M or two 680M and sell your 580M.
Nowadays GPUs are more than capable of handling PhysX by themselves and keeping a 580M just for this would be a waste.

    Hi,

good to see another X7200 user here! :)
I would suggest just what katalin_2003 said. If you can´t afford two GTX 680m at this time, you could do what you have in mind, buy one 680m and use the GTX 580m as PhysX-card and add another one later.
Two GTX 580m or one GTX 680m should have about the same power, but 680m is better in overclocking.
    So I wouldn´t go for a second 580m.

You probably need another heatsink and fan, too? If one or MySN don´t offer it, Goldenstar (Clevo center Germany) will sell you one.

thanks everyone :p Tirenz, your thread was what inspired me to do this :p
    unfortunately I cannot afford 2 680M atm...

where did you get yours? I'd rather avoid Ebay as I do not trust it.

I thought the GPU was sold with the fan? why do I need the heatsink?

just get a single 680m for now then, and throw in another one later down the road... Cause it's twice as powerful as a 580m.
or you could do the same, using a 7970m, its a cheaper option :)

I got them from one.de. I sent a PM to them via the hardwareluxx.de forum. You can try PM them here, they have an account here at NBR, too.
No, unfortunately the heatsink and the Fan were not included. But for about 60-70 Euros (don´t remember the exact value) you can get them from Goldenstar ( Clevo Germany).
You need the heatsink to help keeping the graphics card cool.

Schenker said they do not sell separated components...
how can I know how to install properly the gpu? is it very difficult?

besides, I live in italy. where could I get the components?

It´s a little bit strange that MySN doesn´t sell them. Last year before we tested if the GTX 680m would work in the X7200 they wrote that here at NBR:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/sag...x7200-not-compatible-gtx680m.html#post8676729
That sounded like they WOULD sell a GTX 680m. But maybe they changed their mind?

It´s not difficult, but of course that´s easy to say if you´ve done it before again and again ;).
Here at NBR there are many threads who are describing installing a new GPU.
There is a video of Eurocom on youtube installing a new card at the X7200 (their "Panther") you can take a look there, too.

I still think you can get components from Goldenstar, even if you are in Italy.

I have 3 hard disks and the gpu. but I only see 3 fans when I open the underside. where is the gpu?

I also could not find any place where they sell everything I need. how much is a 680M worth?

or I should wait as series 7 is coming?
EDIT: actually a series 7 card is already out. dammit. what should I do? would this 7M card fit?

Well since they are a rebrand of a soldered chip with 384 shaders compared to your 1344 I would not recommend trying.

You would be "upgrading" your 680M to the equivalent of a GT650M ;)

Well the 780M is going to be the same chip, will it have all the shaders unlocked like the 680MX (that is not a typo)? Will have the same shaders as the 680M but the same high speed memory as the 680MX? Or will it have both?

Or will it simply be a rebrand or at slightly higher clocks?

We don't know, but even in the best case it's not going to be much faster.

Hi, take a look here at an old post from Larry:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/sag...ager-np7280-owners-lounge-35.html#post6701800

There you can see where the GPUs are: In the left corner. The Master card is the left one, the slave card besides it - that slot should be empty at your X7200.
Take a look at the video I mentioned earlier, there you can see it, too.

There are 700m cards out, but not the "GTX" cards. Should be around june or so... here is a thread about the upcoming GTX 780m:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/gam...-new-details-regarding-upcoming-gtx-780m.html

If you should wait you can only answer by yourself: Do you need more performance NOW or can you wait?
For people who already have GTX 680ms, there is no real need to upgrade now. You can easily overclock the 680ms to 780ms. I did that with my GTX 485ms back then when the GTX 580m came along. I just overclocked them to the clocks of GTX 580m and got about the same performance. Maybe it´s not the exactly same thing, because GTX 780m is supposed to have more shaders, but with a little overclocking you take GTX 680m to the level of 780m. Next big step will be the GTX 880m, til then I´ll stick with my GTX 680ms. :)

You can ask one.de via PM to buy a GTX 680m.

And you can mail Goldenstar ( Clevo Germany) and ask about the cost of heatsink+ fan (for GT X580m, as it can be used for the GTX 680m, there is no official heatsink for GTX 680+X7200).
Of course you can mail/ ask other resellers in your region and worldwide, too! :)

    Yes, I understand that.
I was, too when I changed my first graphics card. That´s normal.
If you feel uncomfortable doing it, you can send it to a reseller who can do the job for you, but of course it will cost you some more Money...

    Hi Dark_Ansem,

do you mean for GTX 680m (single Card) and GTX 580m?
Just use the latest WHQL driver from the Nvdia site - and then go to laptopvideo2go.com and download the "inf" file in order to install the Driver. You have to replace the original inf-file in your nVidia Display Driver Folder with the one from laptopvideo2go, then it will install the GTX 680m. :)

If you want to use 2x GTX 680m, then you have to use the SLI hack and the 310.70 WHQL driver, described in the thread in my signature.

haha ok then :p haswell is the new intel cpu and chipset generation, thus requiring new mainboards and new revisions of the clevo machines (among others). new cpu and gpu generations usually come out around the same time frame.

the cpu definitely not, but the gpu isnt really dependent on the chipset revision, rather the system bios compatibility. so dont give up hope just yet :)

If the GTX 780m isn´t that much different (regarding the architecture) than the GTX 680m there is a chance it could work, on the other side I think the GTX 670MX/675MX will not work in X7200, as far as I remember.

OK since an eBay seller started advertising the GTX780M as "for Clevo", here a small note:

As of now it doesn't work on any current Clevo model except the upcoming SM-Series neither HM or EM series and also not any older model, not with Clevo vBIOS not with MSI vBIOS...though the P570WMx will receive an official BIOS update in the near future.
...we are working on it but don't waste your money just yet.
