I'm ordering the Sager NP 2090. I need to have Windows XP on it because my school's network doesn't work with Vista (so they say). XP will be able to run on the 2090, right?

    Thanks!

Just remember your neutering the DX10 capabilities of the 8600GT when you install XP.

XP only has up to DX9 capabilities at the moment.

Vista can support both DX9 and DX10.

So if you get a DX10 videocard like the 8600GT, it would work fine in both OS's, but inside of XP the games can only use DX9 shaders over the DX10 ones.

Although there is a group at the moment working on bring DX10 to XP... they are progressing to alpha testing already.

This is probably BS. If you know the slightest bit about your computer and your OS, you can get Vista to work on pretty much any network.

(I say this as someone who just spent two semesters making XP and Vista talk to the network at my 90% Mac-controlled college.)

Dual-boot XP and Vista, and if Vista doesn't work, just use XP. If you are going to install Vista, though, make sure you're using Business, as I don't know if some of the home versions support advanced networking features (similar to how XP Home didn't have some of the networking features XP Pro does.)

It is probably bs, but you know that if Sacreligoushippie needs support the first question they'll ask is what OS he's running. He won't get support if he's running Vista even if there's a problem on the campus network side.

Skin it to look like XP and tell them it is... see if they know the difference? :D Or, for that matter, since XP can be skinned up to look and behave exactly like Vista, tell them he did that? *grins*

No, honestly, everyone running Vista should probably be dual-booting XP just as a matter of good policy. I haven't used my install of XP in months, but it's good to know it's there just in case something I need won't run or I need access to Vista from outside itself for some reason.
