The P770ZM-G has 2 M.2 drive slots (one by the hard drives and another by the GPU). I want to clone the XP941 that I had in my P750ZM to the 950 Pro. Does it really matter which drive is in which slot? I will be pulling the XP941 out after the cloning and using it some other system.

Further, what is your favorite cloning software? I used to use Norton Ghost long ago but cannot find my copy anymore. (doesn't help that I have moved 3 times since the last time I used it.) I have used Clonezilla most recently.

Shouldn't matter which slot you use. I usually use the same slot for the primary drive every time, but they should be the same on that model.

If you already have Clonezilla it's pretty solid. I used to use EaseUS but it doesn't seem to work as well as it did.

I have used Acronis and as above it does not matter which slot you use.

Placement isn't important and seconding Acronis. We've used it here and it's very user friendly.

I also prefer to use Acronis.

For some strange reason, the 2nd M.2 SATA drive wouldn't physically fit in the P770ZM-G. The smaller side fit but the wider side just doesn't fit.

When I shut down the laptop tonight, I will take pictures (or in the AM) so you can see what I am talking about. :) Either that or video. :)

    Yeah, pictures would be good.

You're inserting the drive at a slight tilt - about a 30 degree angle - right?

I'd like to see the card and which socket you're using of possible.

I will do it when I get out of the hospital. I need to learn that being sick is bad for my health.

Yeah that model only has 1 NVMe socket, the other is M.2 SATA (which it does say on the motherboard by the slot) so it won't take both NVMe M.2 drives

The 2nd (XP941) drive isn't NVMe but you are right about the connector.

But it's not a SATA M.2 so it won't fit in a SATA M.2 socket

How the socket is keyed isn't indicative of the bus it uses. Many (slots) can accept either drive (NVMe or SATA m.2) as long as the drive physically fits.

Actually the keying is indicative of the bus it uses. If it has 1 left hand notch or both notches then it uses PCI-e 2x which works for SATA M.2 and a few lower end AHCI M.2 drives. If it has 1 right hand notch then it uses PCI-e 4x. NVMe drives and PCI-e 4x AHCI drives will only fit the latter, whereas SATA M.2 will fit both, which is why I said that the one shown was an M.2 SATA socket as it doesn't support NVMe or PCI-e 4x AHCI M.2 drives.
