    losing more hair over this
    8t-08-1.jpg

My alarm clock buzzed nearly 25 minutes ago waking me up. I decided, for my health it was Best to sleep the pain away for 13 hours in an attempt to maintain my blood pressure from rising too high. I have not been this angry and depress since six months ago when my grandmother passed away. After requesting the day off from work and waiting all day since morning, UPS finally delivered my 2nd order from Xotic PC at 7:05pm last night. My daughter (even though I insisted she go) has canceled going out with her friends to the movies later this evening because she’s worried about my stress level taking its toll on me. I do not like this at all. Witnessing the two veins running across the lower portion of my temple while pulsing at a mid to mid-high rate does not bring any joy to me either. Purely fed up. I’ve had it.

Xotic PC, you know…. as the old saying goes “Right Is Right and Wrong Is Wrong”.

I’ve done my best to work with the company. Maybe I should have taken "Angel/0a" and “LLStarks" concerns as Golden and not play the blind-eye towards their posts here on NBR. My freelance work has been halted due to my old computer giving out on me in late October of this year. It is the reason why I’ve commit to purchase a Sager now and decided not to wait for the new Ivy Bridge based CPU’s of next year. Is it better to wait for the new Sagers? YES, but can I afford losing ANYMORE on call jobs? NO. I’ve lost clients… I’ve lost time and plenty of money from ALL OF THIS. My head hurts as I type.

I have called many times, yes… many many times before this order shipped out. I felt it was MY obligation to keep track of things in order to not FALL BACK into this ongoing LOOP of e-mail trading, Time Zone monitoring, Status checkups and additional calls to Xotic PC. And what do I get in return? After all the calls, after all the emails, after all the checkups, live web chats, etc., 26 days after requesting an RMA due to defective speakers from my first order, ….Placing a new order WITH upgrades (investing MORE MONEY into the company)…. after spending close to $400 in shipping fees alone and this is what I receive? Really?

What is there to gain from treating customers with such profound contempt? It’s as if they’ve tossed all loyalty aspects out the window and have disregarded all care for customer retention.

So let’s take a closer look at this SO called Xotic PC 99.9% “Customer Satisfaction Guarantee”
For those of you who’ve read up to this point, please follow the numbers

FOR the 2nd time ordering a NP8170 at Xotic PC, my grand total was: $2,146.00

    The Numbers
    $2,146.00
-$1,682.11 credit from defective 1st unit
    - 64.38 cash rebate
    - 50.00 nbr member dsc
    - 28.00 free shipping

    Equal:
Total remaining at: $321.51, then we add $6.89 as a processing fee for using my credit card.

(Hypothetically speaking) Well let’s see Xotic PC says: Your total is 344.53 (we add $23.02) because we’ve decided that you were very generous for adding upgrades to your new order. So, we would like to downgrade your cash rebate amount to 2 % (without confronting you about it….UNLESS you decide to ask us)

So I ask, “Did I miscalculate? I am showing $321.51 as my remaining balance.
(Hypothetically speaking) XPC answer: Oh we thought you’d be glad to know that we’ve downgrade your 3 % cash rebate therefore you owe an additional $23.02, and by the way, we appreciate the additional investment you’ve made on upgrades.

    In exact:
If you would like your order to be completed ASAP, upgraded shipping is recommended.
Your order currently includes ground shipping to Nebraska for the screen upgrade and ground shipping to your address
Your balance due if paying with cash is $344.53
Your balance due if paying with a card is $351.42

Hmm, I am spending more money on a new placed order …. they decide my rebate needs to get downgraded for that. Nice.

So at this point, I do not question their demand and I just want to get the whole entire 2nd episode over with. I am charged $344.53 + $6.89 processing fee, total = $351.42. In addition, I am told that in order to receive my 2nd order from Xotic PC before Christmas, I would need to upgrade shipping methods twice: from Sager to Xotic PC, then from Xotic PC to my residence. Ok, I agree. I upgrade and pay $64 (Sager to Xotic PC) then another upgrade and pay $94 (Xotic PC to my residence). I am told over the phone that I will receive UPS Tracking for both upgrades via email.

December 19th (Monday): I Call to check status and I am told that it is arriving to Xotic PC today, but Screen upgrade will take place tomorrow. I ask for tracking and I am told once they get it they will send an email out. I never got tracking for shipping upgrade from Sager to xotic.

December 20th (Tuesday): Another call to check on status, I am told that the Screen upgrade was done today but will not ship until tomorrow.

December 21st (Wednesday): Email notification, your order shipped today. Tracking provided is from Xotic PC to my residence.

December 22nd (Thursday): I request the day off from work in order to sign for my package yesterday. I have been waiting all day since morning time. Hours go by while I wait & wait and my day consists of reading previous engineering course books (Thermodynamics) as I sit in my living room waiting for UPS. 3:00, 4:00, 5:00, 6:00 passes by and nothing. Finally at 7:05 I hear the truck engine running. Outside I go and I sign for my package.

As soon as I am back inside, I notice that this time, the box is different… There are no labels as before when I received the defective model. It is not an issue at first but I am able to quickly notice the different box. Plain, simple, with a big sticker label that reads:
    “ CHINA EASTERN AIRLINES “
    DEPATURE: PVG
    DESTINATION: LAX

    Pics:

I get a little worried and thinking “im screwed”. I then open the box, grab the inside box and open it.

A USED UNIT!!! THIS IS NOT WHAT I ORDERED; I DID NOT SPEND MY CASH FOR THIS. AND I AM EXTREMELY UPSET.
    IMG_2020.JPG

MY SECOND ORDER FROM XOTIC PC – VERY DIFFERENT FROM WHAT I HAVE SPENT OVER
    $2 GRAND FOR.
SO…… I SPEND MORE MONEY AND THIS IS THE TYPE OF TREATMENT I GET BACK IN RETURN, CORRECT??

At that moment I Immediately called Xotic PC with my mind overlooking the fact that they were already closed for the day. My index finger becomes a bit sore from pushing their toll free number at an alarming rate. “Welcome to Xotic PC, unfortunately you are getting this message because you have reached us after our business hours….”

EXTREMELY Fed UP AND FEELING DEPRESSED ABOUT HOW MY CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEARS IS RUINED AND KNOWING HOW THIS WILL RUINE MY DAUGHTER AND WIFE’S MOOD FOR THE HOLIDAYS, I head over to my bedroom, turn the night light on, set my alarm for 9:15AM and attempt to sleep the pain, anger and depression away.
The hours pass by and my alarm begins to buzz at 9:25 today. I wake up and I decided to inspect this used unit that was sent to me while keeping my composure.

    2ND NP8170 BY XOTIC PC:

    - The hard drive that I wanted was out of stock so I was forced to go with a higher priced smaller capacity drive.
    - The plastic wrapping of the accessories are wrinkled and have a fondled nonprofessional look to them.
    IMG_2018.JPG IMG_2019.JPG
    - Clearly and very noticeable, underneath the power supply contains dust and dirt particles in a used fashion. Light scrapes on the rubber paddings IMG_2020.JPG Unbelievable

    - I DID NOT ORDER “REMOVAL OF ALL BRANDING”

    - No Sager logo, extremely blank on top. No Intel i7 symbol, just pure blank.

    - I GET STANDARD COMPOUND – WHEN I PAID FOR IC DIAMOND THERMAL COMPOUND PASTE FOR CPU AND GPU.

    - I ORDERED NON DEAD PIXEL WARRENTY (BLACK FRIDAY) – THEY DECIDE HE DOES NOT NEED IT, - I DID NOT GET IT.

    - I ORDERED – 17” NOTEBOOK COOLER – THEY DECIDE HE DOES NOT NEED IT, - I DID NOT GET IT.

When I configured my previous order, I added the Cooler + Dead Pixel Warranty on 17" 90% Glossy Screen and they CALCULATED these add-ons INTO the final price (which meant that I would've actually paid for the black Friday specials).

I pointed it out while on the phone with one of the reps and that was the reason why I resubmitted a new Order leaving the Cooler & Dead Pixel Warranty out of the configuration but requested them in the Order Notes section at the bottom of the page.
    As you can see here:
--Attn: This is the "replacement order for #*****". I am paying via money order to receive cash discount and $50 NBR member discount, plus Free shipping with Black Friday Specials. My email: *****@***.com - NBR user id: Phillbspeed. Free 17" Aluminum Notebook Cooler + Free No Dead Pixel Warranty on 17" 90% Glossy Screens. Please note that a credit of $1,682.11 will apply to the Balance of this new order and after receiving email confirmation of the remaining balance left, I will expedite the shipping with Express Mail to pay the difference in full via Money Order. Please note that I have selected "Rush Build/Production Time" to this order as my Christmas wish is to receive it before Christmas day hopefully. Thank you so very much and Happy Holidays to all at XoticPC, Cheers.
    --------------------------
    RE:
Your credit of $1,682.11 is now available.
It appears that multiple order changes have been requested for both of your pending orders. To ensure accuracy and faster processing, we ask that you please submit a new order with ALL correct options (Black Friday Specials will be honored). If you will not submit a new order, please allow 1-4 business days for your order changes to be finalized.
    -------------------

THEY DECIDE; since the Cooler and Dead pixel was not part of the configuration, let’s leave it out ALONG WITH a few Configuration changes.

I have come to the realization that this possibly was done in an intentional manner in order to meet schedules. I have all right to believe that they threw a returned preconfigured NP8170 unit that already matched my specifications right inside the box to ship out. Granted, the screen upgrade was done. But even that becomes interesting as they did not check my configuration. A red flag instantly should have gone up once they noticed that there were no labels on this unit, which is clearly a configuration I did not set, never. The standard compound was another instant red flag. I should have known something was not right when the status of my order quickly went to Burn and Testing phase, given the fact that in reality, the 580m GPU that I upgraded to was out of stock at the time.

As a loyal customer, I have done what was asked of me. I delivered my part both times with no issues. They wanted quick payment the first time around, I expressed shipped it over. I provided. They asked for quick payment the 2nd time around, I provided. No issues. THEY recommend to ship the first defective unit back to Sager at a quick and reasonable time frame (AT MY EXPENSE) I”VE DONE THAT TOO. WHY CAN I NOT GET THE SAME IN RETURN??????? THIS HAS BEEN A VERY UNPLEASENT, DELUDING EXPERIENCE FOR ME. I HAVE SPOKEN WITH SOOOOO MANY EMPLOYEES AT XOTIC PC ALREADY. TOO MANY TO NAME, I WILL NOT NAME ANYONE BUT I WILL SAY THAT I AM QUITE SURE THAT THEY ARE TIRED OF MY CALLS. WELL ME TOO, I AM TIRED OF MY OWN CALLS. THE CONTINUOUS ON GOING LOOP. I AM NOT A ROBOT, I AM TIRED OF CALLING AS WELL, THEREFORE AT THE END OF TODAY, I WILL DO THE FAVOR AND NOT CALL ANYMORE. I REFUSE TO DISTURB THE STAFF MEMBERS OF XOTIC PC IN HOPES OF GETTING FAIR AND QUALITY CUSTOMER SERVICE AFTER INVESTING MY MONEY. IF ORDERS WOULD GET PROCESSED PROPERLY AND DELIEVRED AS PROMISSED, THIS WOULD NOT BE AN ISSUE. MAYBE THAT IS TOO MUCH TO ASK FOR. MAYBE THIS CONSTANT FAIL TO DELIVER IS AN INDIRECT MESSAGE FROM XPC TO ME. IF THAT IS THE CASE, I ASK KINDLY FOR A MORE DIRECT RESPONSE XPC.

Just tell me to move on and try another reseller etc.. as I am clueless and cannot figure out why is this happening?
I can safely say (with no doubt in mind) that ANYONE (EVEN STAFF MEMBERS) having to go through THREE NP8170 orders & RETURNS.. BACK & FORTH… would feel the same. HOW fair is this? THIS IS NOT what I ordered.
Regardless of their decision on how they plan to handle the situation, it will not change the fact that I will be out another 7 plus days of waiting while having to interact within the ongoing loop, again, CONSECUTIVELY FOR THE 3RD time.

With business running smooth as usual in their eyes, Xotic PC will have a great and Happy excellent Christmas, 2012 New Years; everyone within the company.

As for my family & I…
…… just note that you’ve ruined ours.
     :( :(

TL;DR, if you are having so many problems with a business the best thing to do is contact the BBB if contacting customer service themselves isn't helping.

I had a great experience with XoticPC myself but i understand that all companies can drop the ball sometimes. I don't think this is regular business practice what you're experiencing. If anything the holidays make things more hectic for any business and mistakes are bound to happen.

    Hope you get everything sorted.

I feel for you buddy but maybe you should calm down - it makes your argument seem juvenile when you rant about stress. We are all stressed! Don't let a small issue get in the way of enjoying Christmas... seriously at least you have a family and (I assume) good health.

PVG=Pudong Shanghai International Airport... and China Eastern Air is a decent airline for the PRC, nothing like that Dragon Air rubbish.

That being said this is a discomforting look into XoticPC's business practices, I assume they will make this right and will follow.

To be honest, you kind of sound like a stressful guy to deal with, no offense, I have friends that can be stressful :)
but even if you are thats not any reason for a ball to be dropped in business dealings and this one is a confusing one...

How you ended up with a Clevo (Stylenote is the generic Clevo branding bios) branded machine instead of a Sager from a Sager reseller is the part that oddly miffs me the most after reading through your story.

Don't mean any offense, I'm just a no BS person, honestly do hope you get it resolved and if nothing else shrug it off for the holidays,
you may not be in total control of the situation but you're in control of how you react to it and how you assert your feelings onto those around you, remember that and spend some quality time with the family.

I can't really speak on XPC's behalf since I have never used them myself, but from what I understand of the Sager>Reseller>End User model, a lot of the complaints you're leveling against XPC here are actually Sager's fault.

Either way, whoever's responsible is being extremely negligent. This is undeniable. However, I would like to address this:

To be fair, this is nobody's fault but your own. I'm a graphic designer, and I cannot fathom the idea of trusting my entire living and means of supporting myelf to a single computer. I have backup computers, duplicate backup hard drives, off-site storage, you name it. If I were in your shoes, I would have worked to secure a second computer before the inevitability of the one you had dying on you.

It is very much possible that a lot of your problems this time around could have been avoided if they weren't rushed to meet your order before Christmas (the 580 being out of stock, for example). Personally I've never been a fan of expedited builds for any custom manufacturer, because this sort of thing does happen more often as a general rule.

    I think it's more Clevo>Sager>Reseller>End User

It looks like after paying for shipping from Sager to XoticPC to himself, he got a laptop directly from Clevo.

I understand your point but to say that I am at fault for not having a backup workstation is wrong. Everyone's financial situation varies from one to another.

Even if affording to pay for job security might be troublesome, it's still a necessary expense for exactly the reason we have here. It doesn't need to be a bleeding edge machine like the one you ordered either; even something that's just able to support what you do is enough. Even so, you can afford an NP8170 here; you couldn't afford one before now? Of course the general process most people use (including me) is to use your old machine as a backup when upgrading. I'm getting my own Sager (ordered last week) only around a year after I got my current workstation.

Basically what I'm saying is that, once you get everything straightened away and you're finally paired with a Sager you're happy with, do not wait until it's almost dead to replace it. Get back into the market for a new computer maybe a year from now, or in June 2013. Prepare for it. Save some money, and you significantly reduce the risk of this happening to you again.

Hey Phillbspeed, we've had a couple of PMs back and forth so I've got your order number, would you mind sending me your RMA number you had as well? I really apologize about this and I'm personally looking into the matter right now. I'll be sure to post a response to how we get this handled.

Again, sorry about all this. Justin and I will be contacting Sager about the matter ASAP.

Edit: Also a little bit of clarification. The label that you're seeing there is the original label from the Clevo laptop being shipped to Sager, so that's normal. Sometimes Sager covers it with their own label (to prevent shipping confusion) but it isn't anything to worry about. Also, Justin and I are working on getting expedited, advanced replacement for the unit with Sager, so we'll send you out another one first and you can ship the old one back to us.

Last but not least Sager needs to use the computer for a little bit of testing which may explain the collection of dust around the footies on the battery. As far as that branding goes, I apologize about that, looks like we made a mistake, but we are certainly willing to help get it rectified.

If you do consider it, do it. Malibal hasn't had a single complain that hasn't been fixed for free since forever!

And I am sorry to hear about your position. I understand your stress, I would probably go insane and punch a hole in my wall..

I bought my Sager from PNB, my best friend bought a Sager from Xotic. BOTH resellers were nothing short of amazing, consistent, quick to acquire information and give answers, and were not afraid to admit when they didn't know (or were under an NDA and couldn't legally tell). If a laptop coming right after New Year's Day is bothering you, I think most of us here, and even the resellers who I would be willing to be have helped massively, would agree on this:

Seriously, the holidays are not just about a laptop.

    Qft.

I also had a good experience with XoticPC on two accounts. Both on ordering, and getting a repair covered under warranty, without having to pay any additional shipping charges.

Some good things have been mentioned in this thread.

    1) Always have a backup system. Even if it's just a 300 netbook from XYZ-mart with an external monitor/keyboard hooked up so you can still work on something. Even if you're tight on cash, you could return it to the store before the refund period expires. I think if you can afford a 2000 laptop, and the work is important to you, it might be a better investment to buy a 1700 laptop, and a 300 netbook, or maybe even a 1400 laptop and a 600 laptop (from a brick and mortar) to have piece of mind. You can just return it same day if something is messed up.

    2) Although the people at XoticPc promise customer satisfaction, they are human too. Among all the holiday orders, and special deals, and discounts, and bargins...you've gotta realize the people on the other end of your sale also just want to have a nice Christmas/New years. They don't want to be incredibly stressed out because their supplier messed up an order and now they have to run around in circles because the customer is slinging bad reviews all over the internet on them :(. That's not fun.

    3) The holidays are about family and relaxing. Not retail tags and gadgets. Even if this laptop was a gift for someone else, they should not care if it arrives tomorrow, or next month. What really matters is that we have this time to spend with each other, thankful we can all be here on Earth, with sound mind and body.

I appreciate the shout out, but my beef is with Sager and Clevo's continually bad batches of screens from AUO.

I ordered from xoticpc and got my laptop in great time and exactly what I ordered without issue.

Even if it went bad - the happiness of my Christmas is not determined on whether I get my laptop on time or exactly how I specifically ordered a material item.

I would highly recommend you reassess the true value of life and your happiness. Be happy you can afford to spend $2k+ on an item you don't really need and not trying to find out how you can feed your family its next meal this holiday season.

Sorry to be harsh but your original post was pretty dang self-centered.

Buddy...it seems that most of your complaints don't originate from Xotic or from their treatment of you. You assume they didn't use the correct compound, you assume the power brick is used because it has some dirt around the rubber bumpers, you're mad because the brick came from China (they all do), you were pissed off the UPS didn't come by early (not really Xotic's choice here), you wound up with an unbranded notebook (I wouldn't care, but if you want it that's your right). Keep in mind that Xotic is a reseller and this came from Sager. Also, you can be pissed at them all you want, but you wanted to RMA and try to fight to get another computer during Christmas season (every business is crazy right now... especially customized computer manufacturers) because of a defective speaker unit. Dude... if you gave up clients and work because your left speaker sounded a bit scratchy, you run your business in a very different way than I do. I'm not saying I don't sympathize with your situation, nor am I saying you shouldn't RMA this one too (you should get what you ask for), but the absolute anger and freak-outiness (showing a picture of your bald spot ... really?) is a bit over the top. If you're old enough to have a teenage daughter, I pray to God that you're old enough to have learned to manage minor inconveniences better. Just breath deep, drink some eggnog, and RMA this January first.. things will be calmer, people will be happier, and you'll get what you want without issues. Calm is good.

You have: 1) too much time on your hands (to have crafted such a lengthy post), and 2) taken too many drama lessons (or does it come naturally?).

I hope your New Years is uneventful, or I'm afraid we will hear ALL ABOUT IT, in painfully dramatic detail.

Sums up exactly what I was thinking.

Xotic is a reseller, they promised you something by Xmas, while it's possible that Xotic was at fault I think that they had basically 0 control over what ended up happening to you. Clevo > Sager > Xotic > You. Xotic had just enough time to swap out the screen and get it shipped. If someone send a non-branded laptop, who cares? Does the little "sager" logo on the back somehow increase the value of the laptop for you? Hell, I don't see why that matters at all. The fact that it's Clevo bios rather than Sager is a little annoying, but not really that distressing. The signs of wear are a bit distressing, but you can always return it after the holidays... again, who really cares?

If this ruined your holiday, you really need to grow the hell up and realize that the holidays aren't about a new gadget, a new device, or about how your business is doing. From someone who has lost the vast majority of their family, be thankful for what you have, and realize that other people aren't so fortunate to have what you take for granted.

This thread, especially the OP, gave me some nice laughs this morning, thanks! OP: chill out man, life is too short to get stressed over little things like a notebook not having sager branding (personally I think it looks better that way). Try not to have an aneurysm while installing the driver okay? :)

OP, please resolve this with Xotic PC privately. Not much to be gained by posting it on a forum ..... I've not seen a situation where Xotic PC has not taken care of their customers. They have been on this forum a long time.

    LOL for the rant.

When you buy a laptop or any item which is being customised from a company you are very lucky to get everything exactly as you want it. Personally mine came with a busted pixel and as I have the year warranty I will send it back at some point the part that miffed me off is being without my model for a week so i have to wait till im bored or i go away on holiday but at the end of the day the model is so darn good I dont really care. You can double the price you just paid for your model to Alienware and have exactly the same problems.

In regards to you not have the branding mine came without it pretty much the same model P170HM in the UK they call it the Vortex but it did not have any of the I7 stickers like you got just the THX and HDMI silver ones and to be frank as someone who has come from an Asus G73 JH which is all about the styling I will never sacrifice power for looks ever again black, plain and damn fast is all that matters.

Regarding the thermal compound my 2 year old son could reapply it and even though I paid for the better compound it looked as though it had been done by my two year old son so I redid it anyway with ICD. Remove the 4 screws from the cover, and the 4 screws holding the CPU and GPU heatsink in place and thats it wipe with alcoholic swabs apply a blob or line and reseat! I doubt you will have warranty stickers just like mine just the sticky tabs to pull the heatsink off the DIE.

I am a stressful guy I also have OCD, you are taking things too far. There are people dying and starving in this world and I doubt they would care about a laptop cooler when at the end of the day you will get it once you have spoken to Xotic PC, chill out enjoy your model and christmas and stop losing hair.

Word, same from Malibal all I see from them is good things and answers not many companies are the same.

Just to post a update with I am sure the OP will testify to (as this completes execution and he tests his new system)

We offered to advance replace his system with the following
    1. FREE OVERNIGHT Shipping
    2. FREE Blu Ray Upgrade
    3. FREE Upgrade from 4x2GB to 3x4GB OF Ram

We also provided a OVERNIGHT Label sent for Pick Up of old system.

so it means that you added blue-ray upgrade (looks like BD-reader, not BD-burner because you didn't write specific) which he may possibly not use at all because he said it is working/business machine and 4GB of RAM which costs from 10$ to 15$ nowadays. And free fast shipping... wich is still more time to wait even if it takes 1 day.
Frankly my own opinion is that you could put 4x4GB of RAM since we know it is cheap it still should make more relief to the OP.
I understand this guy because it is good when all deals are finished before New Year. I call every day to my repair Center which still can't repair my laptop with bricked bios. Now it seems to have other bad symptoms and looks like bios is no more a problem but smth more serious. I was without my working laptop for 3 month but only last 10 days are really painfull. Because every day they promise that tomorrow perhaps laptop will be fixed. Every day.

Going forward (and would most appreciate if op could edit post)

Image sizes should not exceed 750 pixels wide (500 according to forum rules). Be courteous to those who are using lower resolution screens so that they don't have to scroll sideways.

    Use the following:

    change original
    Code:
    [img]url to image[/img]
    to
    Code:
     [ image=750]url to image[/image]
No spaces after or before brackets. Just had to do that so the code would show up.
(Referring to the space between [ and image=750)

He did what he had to do to get back all what he owns. I bet he doesn't care about some people now arguing about his way... especially if they don't even get it :)

Stupid guy will hit his head about tree bench and will hit again when next tree comes. Smart one will do whatever he needs to not hit his head while still going there where he planned to go. You probably would spend couple monthes more and couple hundreds $$ more on shipping there and here till you get what you ordered.

I also really want to let this thread die, but I am curious as now multiple people said their 'working computer'. Does that mean you need a computer for your work and you do not have a backup?
This seems quite dangerous to me? I have a backup laptop for basic things, and have a backup fund to buy/rent a laptop if needed. Does nobody else plan ahead for these things? S#$t can always happen, and I do not want my customers to suffer from issues I have to deal with. Anyway, just my two cents.
