I am currently looking at purchasing a 15 inch sager. It seems like everyone goes to xotic PC or Mythlogic for their pc. Which is better? Xotic PC is cheaper by hundreds of dollars as well, why is that?
-
Xotic PC, Mythlogic, Malibal, Powernotebooks, LPC-Digital are all pretty popular here.
Mythlogic's prices are probably different because they are a builder (although they buy their parts from Sager) thus don't strictly follow Sager's pricing policies or what not. -
From what the guy at Mythlogic told me they are a builder and in doing so test every part much more then a normal/typical reseller would and they build them in house, meaning they pay for techs etc which increases price. You have a better chance of having a perfectly working lappy from them then another reseller imo, however they are more expensive. PM them and they might possibly price match for you
Xoticpc is a great company though and I might go with them for my sage 17inch, I havent decided yet.
PS: Whats making you go 15 over 17inch? -
Portability mostly. I need something somewhat portable next year for college. I really don't want to take out a beastly 17 inch laptop to take notes. Also I hope the battery life will be better on a 15 inch over a 17 inch.
-
Sadly the battery depends on whether or not you go with sandy bridge and or what gpu. I personally recommend a netbook for college and a gaming laptop, but that is just me
-
Thats my plan exactly! I am thinking a full hd sager with a sandy bridge cpu and a 460m. Then buy a tablet with a bluetooth keyboard or buy a netbook.
-
I'm going to get a tablet as well once something better then the iPad comes out..
I too went with the 15" for portability for college. In the end (with my config/wants) I was able to get I pretty slick deal (IMO) from Myth and I'm looking forward to working with them in the future -
Look at the xoom hizzaah. Also how do you like your matte screen?
-
Since I don't need portability I am thinking about going with a desktop now. I am going to price out a similar spec'd system and see what I can come up with.
-
EDIT: ehh.. idk. not really diggin it based on the reviews i read. thanks for the heads up though
And I dont have my laptop yet. Still waitinBut by looking at the pics Mythlogic posted, I'm gonna be super happy with it!
2ND EDIT: check out this for building your own pc. saw on desktop review and thought it was pretty cool. -
Thanks for the information man. I am thinking about going with a 2600k clocked at 5ghz with a 570gtx and or 2 of them later on down the line with an elm crest 120gb ssd =D.
-
5ghz? you gonna water cool that mess? lol..
-
Just shoot me a PM if you have any questions about that.
-
I would definitely contact Myth directly. They worked with me on price and put together a great build for me.
-
This thread could of been so exciting instead so civilized.
To OP honestly I say contact both and just go by your gut. You are getting similar product at similar price. Maybe one can offer a slightly different config? But both are respected companies that are trying to offer good products and services.
Now if you asked me either of these companies vs Eurocom I might say different. -
Ohh wait sorry:cry:

to the OP
Feel free to PM me or email any of our sales Reps. As everybody said call your favorite reseller up and make your decision. You can also look at years in business with the BBB or the history of reviews on sites like ResellerRatings. We have been in business over 10 years. -
I have to say I have bought from Xotic and have been very happy with them. I find them to be very helpful with an Asus I owned. They are willing when Asus support seems impersonal they have offered to contact Asus and help get the ball rolling.
I am sure Mythlogic is the same I just have no experience with them. These companies are big enough to deliver but not so big you get lost in the shuffle.
Anyone else notice one is in Ann Arbor the other Lincoln? These guys should bet on their football teams when Nebraska joins the BIG10. -
I picked mythlogic because I turned down Mich for law school and felt like I would very likely in another life have ended up stimulating the Ann Arbor economy
-
I'm looking at both XoticPC and mythlogic for the NP 5160, and was wondering what difference the professional color calibration made? Would anyone be willing to help me calibrate it myself if I didn't get it from mythlogic?
-
Justin@XoticPC Company Representative
I am sure others will attest that calibration does not take much for the end user to complete if you wanted to do so yourself or routinely do it.
-
If you want to do as properly on a notebook as you can you need hardware. Now consider that because notebooks have major view angle issues unless it is calibrated at exactly as you will view (angle) it will be mis-calibrated.
Do you do photography? I mean that is really all it is for I think. Trying to get images viewed to print the closest colors and contrast.
If you print photos you can compare monitor from what is printed and adjust from there.
So I guess I am saying most of us don't need professional color calibration. Those that do likely already do themselves. I guess I am saying on a notebook it as about as nice having them do it as if they gave the notebook a sponge bath. Sure nice but at the end of the day?
I mentioned view angles I think ambient lighting has an affect also. -
Well, RGBLED's tend to have a pinkish-red tint, and pops out the red overall, up to a point it hurts one's eyes.
I can't say that B+RG screens have the same problem as to be honest, I have never seen one in person. But if a screen isn't calibrated correctly, the oversaturation of some colors can literally hurt your eye..
And this is from personal experience as well.. -
Hmm, I'm going to wait on comparisons of NP 5160 screens from those getting theirs soon; the glossy camp vs the matte 95% camp. Googling 'matte vs. glossy' doesn't look very promising for the matte :/

As for me, being a Canadian, I like that I can drive to Mythlogic and pick up my laptop, but I'd have to get it mailed to a warehouse in Niagara Falls if I went with Xotic (otherwise pay ridiculous customs!!!). -
-
I just have a question. Since this is just a monitor, is it possible for the end user to just put the screen on themselves? No need to update any driver or anything right?
-
As long as it is compatible you should be fine to install the screen yourself as long as you have a tech drawing/manual to disassemble it and you're comfortable with doing that sort of thing. It may require replacing the inverter board as well. The display itself should be plug and play with no driver update required.
I think this thread is off topic, I clicked on it expecting a flame war between Mythlogic and XoticPC fanboys. -
-
-
Hmm..When Windkull's laptop ships is when we know that Sager is finally done with January orders. Hehe..
-
-
bah so I won't get it til the week after most likely because Ann Arbor to NYC is 3 days by ground i think...

Off-Topic: That reminds me of a scene from The Legend of Ron Burgandy where all the news crews come out of no where and start fighting.
Another OT: Every car that passes my house makes me look out the window for UPS. Now a truck sound came, but it was Fedex. Got all excited for nothing.
On topic (sort of): Good to hear about the display question. Looks like I need to get my computer disassembly knowledge up-to-date. -
My first thought was the showdown scene in Legend of Ron Burgandy. They should fight it out in the back alley with mobo's and HDD's -
I think some of Xotic's customers who ordered in Feb were already moved into phase 2 early to mid of this week, so it shouldn't be too long now for you Feb babies

Continuing the semi-off-topic:
I think a face-off in the style of Celebrity Death Match would do the trick.
Coz they can do all the crazy sh*t and are still alive to build our precious notebooks afterwards. -
Dude i seriously need Mythlogic to hurry up now because my ac adapter on my m1530 died tonight and my only backup is a weak 65W one.... I need my laptop... Yesterday!
On a brighter note they are sending me a technician next weekend with parts to rebuild my machine... -
If you think that's bad try using a 7 year old laptop that will crash if you have 3 tabs open in Windows Explorer! The CD burner is dead, so no backups for the past 6 months! The HDD is full so no more room any more and I'm offloading to flash memory cards when the port works. which is intermittantly and the keyboard is wonky and will do random things like typing in the middle of a paragraph I just typed. I haven't shut it off for the past year because it probably won't start up again.
Why is this on Topic? Because I'm waiting for my Sager 8150 from XoticPC. -
-
I guess we both need our new Sagers, yesterday. -
At least yours runs, I have one of the many HP "non recalled" nVidia chips, been out since the beginning of the year, sadly though I still havn't ordered when I do I will probably go with xoticPC their giving me a little better price with the customization I want.
-
Yeah... I need mine too. My netbook occasionally freezes for 15 seconds trying to switch tabs on firefox. LOL. Some times it gets a complete OS freeze. I don't wanna reinstall this thing. I want to install an OS on my Beast! Well... It just froze for 10seconds on me while typing this -.-

-
It's a good netbook if I didn't install Windows 7 on it when it only has like 1GB of RAM
lol
